Another fantastic scheduling get for Dan Muller. I am loving the way he's stepped up his scheduling efforts. Add UCF to their already challenging nonconference slate.

Illinois State just added a home-and-home with VCU starting on the road in 2018. Coach M getting it done in setting up a schedule that the fans are really excited about, with potential for a number of Top 100 games if the opponents keep up their end of the bargain. Gone are the Coach Jank days of playing every cupcake you can find to inflate your schedule. Hopefully all other schools in the Valley will follow the lead. Coach Jacobsen set the pattern for this in my mind as he always schedules tough.

Tired of listening to the excuses that it's impossible to have a good schedule as a mid-major. It's definitely difficult, but can be done.

I agree with this. If you're willing to be creative, use your MTEs for extra games and are willing to invest in chartering flights so that the travel is manageable, you can put together very good schedules. Is there the risk of going to far? Sure, see UNI 2015-2016, but I can guarantee Jake and Muller are going to error on the side of being too aggressive rather than too light. I think Moser is headed that way too but he also isn't having to work too hard to get games this year, let's see what happens when the Final Four luster wears off.

The other point is that tough scheduling isn't all about loading up on buy games and being on the road for two months, its putting together a nice mix of home and road games that you can both challenge yourself with AND win some games in.

It's up to the other 7 to match it.

Saying that everybody can schedule the way same as the teams that have been at the top of the conference over the past few years is ridiculous. Teams from other conferences don't want to schedule a home and home with a team that has had a bad RPI over the past few years because it will kill THEIR schedule. If you have been in the top 100 for the past few years it is fairly safe for another team to put you on their schedule. If you have not, they don't want anything to do with you.

He mistakenly states that the Redbirds are playing Nevada (they're not) but this source also says Illinois State will be playing VCU
