I'm an MSU fan that likes Barry Hinson in a lot of ways. He's just a good guy and in some respects he's a good coach. And he's very loyal. But Bearz stated it perfectly saying he has a unique talent for losing the critical games. He really does. That was the case at MSU and has been the case to this point at SIU.

MSU made the correct choice all those years ago letting him go. He just wasn't going to get us there. I truly hope this will be his breakout year at SIU but fear his trajectory at SIU is going the exact same way as it did with us.

I want him to have a huge year for the sake of SIU's health as a school and for the MVC as a whole, but I just don't fully trust him to take this team to its full potential. He's amazing at rallying the troops in the face of adversity (this past year's 2nd place finish is a prime example) but as far as winning big games and making the most of the talent that is there when the team is healthy, I just don't think he can get it done.

I'd sign that kind of a record to a 5-year extension. #EvansvilleLogic

Interesting that you mention Evansville/Simmons, because I think it was clear to many of us that once Simmons couldn't get over the hump with Balentine, Mock, etc., as seniors, he wasn't going to get it done at Evansville, yet they wasted a couple additional seasons afterward, delaying the necessary rebuild. I fear Southern will make the same mistake if Hinson can't cash in on one of the most experienced, senior-laden teams in the country this season. This should clearly be a do-or-die year for his tenure.

It was a timing issue. The new incoming president of the university was willing to upgrade in the coaching staff, recruiting...etc and McCarty has shown more interest in recruiting and mixing with the fans and students in the 3 months on the job than Simmons did in 11 years.

Thanks for posting the rankings. Poor writing, too many ads along with good old fashioned click-baiting couldn't get me past Drake.

A familiar preseason position for UE for the past couple of years. Fortunately UE has no where to go but up and the chances of that happening are greater this year than in past years.
