Signing Day 2018

Postby BCPanther » November 14th, 2018, 10:10 am

UNI has received all 6 LOIs that were expected. All 6 players from Iowa.

3 Scholarship Players--
James Betz--6-7 215 SF/PF from Ventura, IA
Noah Carter--6-5 220 SF from Dubuque, IA
Cole Henry--6-9 215 Point Forward from Oskaloosa, IA

3 Preferred Walk Ons--
Evan Gauger--6-2 170 CG from Indianola, IA
Derek Krogmann--6-7 230 PF from Manchester, IA
Logan Wolf--6-5 210 CG from Cedar Falls, IA (will be on football scholarship)

The 2019 and 2020 classes are loaded in Iowa. Very good players available and UNI did very well with this class.

James Betz committed 3 years ago and has been a consistent 18 and 10 kid at a small school, compares very favorably to former Panther Grant Stout.

Noah Carter is a very good offensive player that will play on the wing and also be able to score as an undersized 4 in the Valley, plays in the best HS league in Iowa and averaged 22 ppg last year.

Henry is a late bloomer that grew from a 5-11 point guard as a freshman and still runs the point for his HS team that was runner up in the 2nd largest class in Iowa last year. Overshadowed by national 2020 top 30 recruit Xavier Foster.

Gauger is a late add with good number. Needs weight. Not sure how much of a role there is for him in the future. Played very well on the AAU circuit last summer.

Krogmann is a big body and outstanding rebounder. He will go on scholarship in year two. Needs offensive development but will see time due to his defense by year 3.

Wolf was AJ Green's running mate on Cedar Falls State Title team last year. His dad played LB at UNI and he will be coming as a football first kid. Elite wide receiver that is only at UNI because of the legacy and the fact UNI is going to allow him to play basketball.

Some good some bad for MSU. As feared Gaige Prim got a lot of late push from some P-5 teams but we were able to secure an LOI . Two others[ Freeman and Black] are in and we are still expecting Harris's. However, Brinson backed out , so that late surge he had at the AAU tourneys got him some increased attention and offers, most likely west coast schools. Still sweating Harris, although he's a teammate of Blacks and his twitter page still lists us as his choice. Not sure if we are pursuing anyone for this signing period to replace Brinson or will wait to spring. We have other offers we made earlier including to a third player from Columbia Rock Bridge, Isiaih Mosley , teammate of Black and Harris, but not sure on what his plans are as he had offers from Tulsa, SMU, and MIssissippi St as well. Either way, if Harris is a Bear then we are in good shape and it will be a really really good class. Harris and Freeman are top 200-275 ranked players, and Prim has really increased his status of late. Getting players isn't really a concern with this staff right now, they seem to have a lot of connections.

Sounds like UNI and Mo State signed some solid players. SIU only has two guards committed, and will have three scholarships remaining. Barry Hinson tearing up the recruiting circles. :(

Valpo is not expecting any commitments for their lone available scholarship during the early signing period. They're in some battles with fellow MVC schools as well as P5 schools for some very talented frontcourt players.

Agreed. Even under Lusk I feared enough talent still wouldn't be enough (and it wasn't) so I worried about who we didn't get.

Not under this staff. They will get their guys and the ones they get they will know how to develop. Exciting times.

Valpo is in the final 4 for 2020 PG Lorne Bowman from Detroit (also considering Iowa Wisconsin and Nebraska). He's expected to announce his verbal commitment later today. For the record Valpo fans don't seem confident though we are the closest school and have been in on him since a very early point in his recruitment process. We're also in the Final 4 for 2019 forward Chris Payton (also considering SIU Middle Tennessee and Illinois) speculation is that he may wait for an offer from Illinois but there is also speculation that SIU feels confident in their chances.

Harris in the fold, so Bears end up getting 4 of 5 and will probably wait to spring for any more additions. Actually with the waiver rulings today against Hall and Tyrik Dixon [ still waiting on Da Silva, but not very optimistic] Bears with have a huge influx on the roster next year with anywhere from 6-10 new players. the good thing is 3 of them will have been able to practice all this year with the team. Even with loss of Brinson, this is a very solid class for the Bears and I like the fact 3 of 4 are Missouri kids, but also extremely talented.
Good job by Coach Ford and staff.

Evansville signed Marcus Henderson from North Carolina 6'2 guard.
Last season, Henderson played for Statesville Christian High where he averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.2 steals per contest.
