All-Conference Teams

Postby Bearvision » February 20th, 2021, 11:15 pm

Wondering everyone's opinions on who will make 1st Team All-Valley and POY? Lots of good players in the league this year.

Krutwig
Prim
Mosley

Those three seem like locks on the 1st team and the final two spots could go a number of ways. I probably would've had Hemphill on the 1st team before his injury, but that opens up another spot. I'd probably fill it out this way:

1st Team:
Cameron Krutwig- POY
Gaige Prim
Isiaih Mosley
Roman Penn
Tyreke Key

2nd Team:
Garrett Sturtz
ShanQuan Hemphill
Aher Uguak- DPOY
Lucas Williamson
Elijah Childs

Lucas Williamson, Tremell Murphy, Darnell Brodie, Ja'Shon Henry were strong contenders for 2nd team.

I think that'd be my picks as well. I really like Krikke for Valpo, but tough comp down low with both he and Phyfe not quite as impactful as the top 3 guys. Could see Williamson supplanting Hemphill 1st team simply because of injury/#games played. Definitely Williamson for DPOY and Krutwig for POY. Lots of quality newcomers for that team and award to consider with despite injury, Hemphill probably the NOY. Like Sharp on that Newcomer team though with Brodie, Norris, Mast, and Hemphill. Have to study the freshmen a little more for that team and FOY.

I doubt I'd have Horne on the 4th team. He is currently at .115 Win Shares/40 minutes and 1.8 Win Shares on the season.

The others have cases. Like I say, other than Krutwig, Prim, Mosley it's pretty debatable.

I'd say Key is pretty obvious too and you about have to have someone from Drake (Penn).
2nd team would be where the debates start.

Key is 4th in Win Shares, so I did put him on my 1st team, but he is only 10th in WS/40 minutes. Win Shares is obviously slanted to players who play big minutes and Key does, but there is also something to be said for keeping your efficiency up as you play bigger minutes.

It's tough for me not to give Prim POY, but Krutwig is just so good and he plays on best team.

Lucas Williamson is getting love for DPOY, but Uguak is a bit more rare of a defender in my opinion.

Krutwig leads in Defensive Win Shares, with Williamson second and Uguak third. I could buy Williamson getting it. I was just slightly more impressed with Uguak in my two-game sample.

1st Team:
(SO) Isaiah Mosley-Missouri State
(SR) Tyreke Key-Indiana State
(SR) Shanquan Hemphill-Drake
(SR) Gaige Prim-Missouri State
(SR) Cameron Krutwig-Loyola (POY)

2nd Team:
(SO) DJ Horne-Illinois State
(SO) Lance Jones-Southern Illinois
(SR) Elijah Childs-Bradley
(JR) Austin Phyfe-Northern Iowa
(SO) Ben Krikke-Valparaiso

All Freshman Team:
Rienk Mask-Bradley
Kyler Filewich-Southern Illinois
Bowen Born-Northern Iowa
Nate Heise-Northern Iowa
Darius Hanna-Bradley

Since most of us don’t have much knowledge of Freshman on other teams, post Freshmen on your team that you would pick that you feel could be top 5 Sophomores next season.
I’m going with Emon Washington & Howard Fleming Jr from Illinois State.

No way is Brodie on any all-conference team. There's 6 other Drake players I'd pick ahead of him. Not slamming the guy, but I just don't see an all-conference player, not even Honorable Mention.

DJ Horne scores 41 points in two games against the Bears and is not worthy of fourth team, huh?
