A. If you take a number, with a dollar sign in front of it, and divide it by 12, you will always get a smaller result than by dividing that same number by 10.

B. Belmont has beaten Murray State 81% of the time. With the recent exodus of two teams from the Obscure Valley Conference, Murray is probably hoping that Belmont goes somewhere else, so that Murray can once again be the big fish in the small pond. If Murray cannot hold their own against Belmont, how do you think they will do in the grinding MVC schedule? I doubt that Murray wants in.

Yet Murray has won 50% of their games with SIU... if SIU “cannot hold their own” against Murray, “how do you think they will do in a grinding” Obscure Valley Conference?

I guess they would do the same as Murray has? 8-)

I really think strategic non-conference scheduling partnerships are the way to go. We don't need a formal conference challenge. Just work out some strategic games with other conferences that will benefit both parties.

The league is (maybe was) good at hosting events. Host an annual early season tournament or event in St. Louis involving the top couple of teams from the Valley the previous year and some big schools. Imagine an event with Illinois, Missouri, Loyola and Drake next year. Maybe Iowa State, Arkansas, UNI and Missouri State the following. Those games would be good for all involved on a neutral court in November. Heck, you could even limit it to former Valley members like Creighton, Wichita, Tulsa, Cincinnati, Memphis, etc. and it could be really cool.

Have I said that SIU is the best team in the MVC, year in and year out? The answer is no. Does Murray State consider themselves to be the best team in the OVC? I will let you answer that. SIU has been downright abysmal for around the last 12 years or so, and several of the Murray wins have occurred in that period. When SIU has been on a roll they tend to be pretty good. SIU has three Sweet Sixteen banners hanging from the rafters Murray State has 0. I have always looked at NCAA tournament performance as a mark of how good a team really is, or is not. Maybe if Murray would schedule up, instead of beating up on cupcakes , not including the cupcakes in the OVC. Example, Murray's veteran team loses to SIU's freshmen/sophomore team (full disclosure one senior) in Carbondale in December, SIU was able to schedule a last minute game with Duquesne, which fell through, then schedules a game at Butler, goes there and breaks Butler's 59 game non-conference winning streak. Meanwhile, Murray goes home and schedules a D3 team!

Please don't tell me that no one wants to play you, so you have to play the chump teams. SIU had games scheduled with SLU and Fan Francisco this year that were of course covid-cancelled (and did play Butler).

And you have no idea what a grind the MVC schedule is, ask any MVC coach.

Yeah maybe the Racers should schedule good MVC teams... I’ll make sure to pass that one along

Why has Murray never been invited to join a better conference than the one who last had a team in the Sweet Sixteen exactly 1/2 century ago? And that team, Western KY, is obviously no longer in the OVC.
