We're a farm team.

This was highly, highly predictable when Drake couldn't wait to tell everyone all of the seniors were coming back.

On the farm team note - are you going to return Roman Penn and Brodie to their original schools?

You forget Hemphill....and a few years ago, Norton and Ellingson. The transfer thing works in both directions. I think, overall, Drake has benefited more from transfers than they've been hurt.

Yesufu was a great scorer, but wasn't great at running the show. In games with Penn starting, Yesufu averaged 10.0 ppg and the team averaged 78.9 ppg. In games without Penn, Yesuful averaged 22.4 ppg, but the team only averaged 65.7 ppg.

Not trying to bash on Joe, he was a lot of fun to watch, and a real good player. But, he was going to be back on the bench next season, and I'm sure he knew it. He would have still gotten 25-30 minutes per game, but he wouldn't have started.

Right. Forgot those guys. Once Yesefu started shooting 15+ times a game that was never going back in the bottle.

Not sure how much stock to put into the team PPG numbers. Yesufu didn’t get to play with a healthy Hemphill and 3 of those 8 games were against NCAA teams.

Yesufu is a gamechanger who feels destined to win POY one day.

If I’m Drake, I do everything in my power to re-recruit him.

There has to be a way to make the minutes work.

26 - Penn/Yesufu/Wilkins/Hemphill/Murphy
22 - Brodie
15 - Sturtz/Devries
6 - Samake/Jackson/Ferguson

Guessing the buyout is too big. Unless a big time booster writes a check, I think he's there two more years.

The buy out was definitely too big for this year. His buyout, COVID, and the new AD saved him. He could lean on the excuse that he’s putting out one of the youngest teams in the country every night.

I believe after this season, his buyout goes to around 1Mil. I think Muller loves ISU and wants the program he once starred in to succeed. However, quickly approaching year 10, he hasn’t gotten it done. 1 regular season championship and a couple NIT berths does not get people (fans or recruits) excited. Out of pure love for the university, I hope after next season he chooses to step down to save ISU a lot of money. He won’t, but other than winning, it’d be the best case scenario.

An interesting aspect to the saga is the new AD that started back in January. His contract is only for 3 years...2021,22, and 23. If he wants to stay at ISU longer than that. A change will have to be made after next season or they’ll risk losing even more donors.

Anyway, losing DJ is devastating to ISU. I don’t believe it’s been posted here but Antonio Reeves declared for the draft without hiring an agent. Originally said his plan is to return to ISU. We’ll see what happens. A LOT of shots just opened up.

Something to consider; I understand why Yesufu might choose to transfer giving the lineup possibilities for Drake, and no doubt he's an exciting player. But when you look at Norton, Penn, Yesufu , the common denominator in their success is Devries. Norton and Penn were solid D-1 players at previous stops, but nothing like they were/have been for Drake. Yesufu was not a high profile recruit. All greatly exceeded previous levels/expectations once in Devries system/offense. Not a coincidence. So whether it's his system or development/ teaching skills, I think one has to recognize his ability with pgs, which also suggests they might not be as exceptional when not in Drake blue. True they may carry over that new found skill/ confidence, but I've got a feeling it's a 70/30 scenario , player/coach-system. JMO

I agree. I'm not sure there is any reason to recruit and develop high school players anymore because as soon as you develop them they leave. I am pretty sure they give no credit to the coach.

Yesufu is like AJ Green, great scorer, great athlete, but far from a great pt guard.
