Interesting. Maybe they're going to be better than we realize next year. Sycamore fans, How have they addressed the frontcourt?

He brought them from his D2

Key coming back moves them from the 8/9 range to 6 for me.

Are you saying that one player doesn’t make that much of a difference? Even a really good one?

In the MVC, there is a significant difference between finishing 8/9 and 6. Especially with how solid the top of the league should be next season. Loyola, Drake, UNI, and Mo State could be tournament teams. Gotta get out and schedule in the noncon.

Valparaiso guards Goodnews Kpegeol and Zion Morgan are no longer listed on team roster for 2021-22 season.

Actually the opposite. I think Key makes a massive difference and probably prevents a total rebuild.

Fwiw-- Here's where I'm at today-

Drake/UNI/Missouri State-- Throw them in a hat. I think they're all tournament teams.
Loyola- Love Valentine but he's still a 29 year old 1st time HC
SIU- Healthy and ready to get back on track
Indiana State- Enough back to make the transition easier
Evansville- All back but not the highest ceiling
Valpo- More roster turnover. The new Evansville that doesn't figure it out until February
Bradley- Tons of turnover. Collapsed last year. Who knows?
Illinois State- The Dan Muller Farewell Tour coming to a Valley Arena near you!

Have you seen Valentine’s roster? It’s arguably the best roster in the MVC. You have to include them with the other top three.

The conference definitely has 4 tier 1 teams this year, which is really exciting. That said, Loyola is a question mark. Don't get me wrong, they have a TON of talent. But having to reinvent a Krutless offense for Valentine may not be quite as easy as some think. Also, I believe Northern Iowa is also a question mark. We expect big things from AJ Green, but who knows how well he comes off this injury. To me, they probably have more to prove this year than the other top 3 schools.

I'm really excited to watch my Salukis this year. Hoping to see them surprise some and break into the top 3!

I see it as:

Drake
Loyola
MoSt
UNI

SIU

InSt
Valpo
Evansville
Bradley
ISUr

Drake returns everyone and retained their excellent HC. I think they have to be preseason favorite with Devries preseason pick for COY and Penn preseason pick for POY.

Loyola returns ~80% of production from a S16/MVC champion team and adds some of the best transfers/frosh in the Valley. Defense was their calling card and with Lucas/Uguak returning, top scorers on opposing teams will be held in check. The Krutless Offense will be the variable in Loyola's success--can they find new ways to score? They certainly have the talent.

MoSt was 0-5 vs Loyola/Drake last year so I don't think you can put them above those two quite yet. Obviously Prim/Mosley is an unbelievable returning 1-2 punch. But the supporting cast and coach need to step up.

UNI might just have the best ceiling of the four. Last year was rough, but it gave some younger guys like Heise and Born really valuable experience. The biggest question mark is how AJ Green looks returning from injury/surgery, which is never predictable. Could take a few months for him to find his old self. But the return Green/Phyfe will be a great storyline.

To me Loyola is the favorite until proven otherwise.

hot take- Loyola will not finish in the top 4. Combine the fact they ran their offense through Krut and the HC inexperience, I think they are in for a tough time. None of the SR that are returning can create their own offense. Defense and experience will only carry this group so far and In a loaded valley I believe that will be around the 5 spot.
