You're right on the math, but I'm not so sure the round robin stays. 22 conference games is still a whole, whole lot of conference games. I don't think any other conference plays more than 20 conference games in a season.

That's an easy fix. Two teams you only play once a year. One at home and one away. They change every year.

Yes, I know. I was responding to the idea that the MVC continues a true round robin style of conference play, which was responding to pcpanther who saying a similar thing as that.

Not sure that would be the best idea as far as metrics go. The conference goes .500 in those games as a whole. Still need to balance the non-conference ability to get wins and chances at picking up quality wins.

Only if some schools continue to schedule like garbage. You're actually improving your metrics when you add in the 4 games against Belmont and Murray (or at least you should be) when those are replacing games against Chicago State, SEMO, Maine and Cal Poly. If those are the games you choose to keep, then it's not the 22-game scheme that's the problem.

Credit to tribe on the Bradley board for crunching these numbers:

KenPom last 5 years

74 - Loyola
86.8 - Belmont
123.8 - Murray St
126.8 - Mo State
136 - UNI
151 - Bradley
151.6 - Drake
157.2 - Indiana State
160.2 - SIU
162.4 - ISU
162.6 - Valpo
202.6 - Evansville

Not if you are trading wins for loses. Not sure about the changes with NET, but SOS was always weighted on opponents W/L, and your opponents opponents W/L. Getting wins in the non-conference is vital. It's not going to do a lot of good for a team at the bottom to schedule a bunch of games they can't win. There's a balance teams need to take between getting wins and taking chances.

Once the ACC adds their new teams, they'll go to 22 or 24.

It's only a matter of time before all the BCS teams start playing 22 or more games. As leagues continue to get bigger, everyone will eventually be doing it.

Most of the relevant leagues are already playing 20.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding who you're replying to, but the Big Ten plays a 20 game conference schedule, not a 22 game conference schedule. I'm not saying it's impossible for a conference schedule to be 22 games, but nobody does that right now. Maybe the MVC is the conference to do it so they can continue the round robin, but I'm not so sure we can make that assumption.

Someone on Shockernet is saying second best option behind MWC is the Valley if the AAC adds a bunch of crap basketball schools which appears likely. They don't seem to want the A-10. Big East isn't realistic yet. They are also happy with the MVC pickups.

Horizon plays a 22-game double round robin.

This league was built on teams challenging themselves AND winning. You can do both.

Hope the rumor turns out to be truth: Murray and Belmont were the two best options by far IMO, and while I can't wait for this season I really can't wait for 2022-23.

You can't do both with conference games, one team has to lose. That's the point.

Understood. But you also have a non-conference schedule. It just means you'll have to put on the big boy pants and start acting like one.
