It's why I'm not as high on Murray State as others. You should be adding a school based on their future, not their past. Adding a lesser version of SIU but in Kentucky doesn't seem like a forward thinking move.

I'm going to try to be kind here, but, holy cow, that take is something else.

Yeah, really have to question Murray State's basketball future after it's been successful for going on about 90 years now (43rd all-time in wins nationally). And "lesser version of SIU"? Check the all-time series. Dead even.

But, yeah, can't move the campus to St. Louis, or Nashville or Chicago or even Arlington. You want to look to the future? Which of these MVC candidates have the best chance to earn a second bid and win games in the NCAA tournament and bring $$$ to the league?

Not to mention 2 lottery picks the past decade. Gah I love the SIU egos. Going to be a fun rivalry now that they can’t dodge us every year.

Murray st would be a fine addition. They value basketball and are close. It is the other 3 schools mentioned that make me want to :Bam:

You've got to have balance.

Murray brings basketball but they don't bring anything market-wise and that's a big deal for the presidents, especially the privates. You've got to think like a president right now and not a sports fan. It is what it is.

We can sit here on a message board and say whatever but Arlington, UIC and Murray are coming. It's just a matter of what 4th balances market and basketball and there aren't a lot of great choices. I ever so slightly lean Kansas City over Omaha but am good with either.

I'm saying "lesser version of SIU" as an institution. Sorry - but it is.

And I'm not looking at it from just a basketball perspective. You have to look at it from the perspective of the University Presidents.

Yes. That was my point. To President's this isn't just a basketball decision. If it were - Murray is obviously the best. But as an institution that helps the other MVC schools and is in a market that helps attract future students - it's a nothing burger.

And I love that everyone thinks people can't take their fandom away and look at things objectively.

Not sure if this was posted but this account did a good job of breaking down the Belmont add a few weeks ago. He has another video here with good stuff:

We aren't the big ten, markets do not matter at the mid major level. None of the leagues are getting tv contracts. Get the best basketball programs possible and build a brand around that. We will have zero identity and massive travel budgets if these changes go through. Stupidity at its finest.
