MVC Expansion Candidate Deep Dive

How many NCAA wins and at-large bids between next season’s MVC teams the past 12 years out of curiosity? I can think of one at-large for Belmont (a gift to a retiring Rick Byrd but I digress).

Since 2010, the MVC teams have received 5 at-large bids (or equivalent seeds) to the NCAA Tournament. Creighton, Wichita State, and Loyola are excluded from these numbers while Valparaiso and Belmont are included. During that same time, the SoCon has 1 such team. These don't include 2020, when Northern Iowa (49 KenPom) was a bubble team and ETSU (56 KenPom) had won the SoCon Tournament.
For more perspective...
During the same time (since 2010), the MVC teams have received 11 at-large bids (or equivalent seeds) to the NIT. The SoCon has 2 at-large bids (or equivalent seeds) to the NIT during that stretch.

That same SoCon team is ranked below Loyola (current member) and Belmont (new member to replace Loyola). Belmont also beat them.

Since you can’t let it go, Loyola is on to bigger and better things and Belmont is currently in the OVC. Face it, the MVC is weaker than usual this year and looking to water it down worse is all I’m saying. If you’re good with that I am too.
