Were people that excited about gaining Loyola after their two seasons before joining the MVC of 7-23 and 15-16?
No, but Loyola was committed to investing in their program, is UIC ready to do the same? I have no idea.
UIC was ready and indeed committed to investing back in 2013. You guys happened to be private, to restore the balance, plus promised Smart that you guys would invest. The rest is history.

Don't let the UIC is a branch fool you. First off, all 3 of the schools in the Illinois System, Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield are ALL branches. They are what make up the whole tree. While there is a BOT protocol when approving monies, et al, UIC has over $750,000,000 of its own money! The Chicago "branch" over the years has become quite formidable, not as a competitor to Urbana-Champaign, but in the overall educational/academic/research landscape. Being in Chicago has certainly helped that. I wouldn't say UIUC is threatened by any means, but I don't think they would be all that happy if there was a situation like California/UCLA (two "branch" campuses) where one branch has equaled the other and in some ways surpassed it.
