I can live with the outcome given many voters take into account team finishes ; there's always been and always will be debate about is it a "best player" or "most valuable player " award. I like that the women usually use a 10 lady All MVC format, although you still get debate for the last couple spots, but don't have to differentiate among the top players as much. It'll be interesting to see if in the future the trend to utilize metrics come into play on the selection process. For example winshares/40 min is really meaningful stat; here's how the top 5 in the Valley line up there:

1 Prim .237
2 Sturtz .224
3 Mosley .222
4 Williamson .194
5 Carter .190

Green was #16 at .151 The differences between the top of the league and where Green is is because all those guys at the top do more across the board , and shoot better from the field than Green. I think it reflects my thinking that Sturtz was one of the best players in the league and that Carter was more a determining factor on when UNI was good than Green was.

I get that voters consider results but aren't these awards designed to reward the league's best players, regardless of the success (or lack of) their team?

The people that didn't have Mosley or Green on their ballot should have their voters rights revoked. Similarly to that Chicago sports media clown that said he'd never vote for Aaron Rodgers for MVP.

Love Antonio, but I think it's just a matter of who he replaces. I don't know who you take off to put him on. You already said voters should have their ballots revoked for not voting for Green or Mosley for POY, so which of the other three do you replace with Reeves?

We need to be better than 8th. Right or wrong, that's how this stuff works.

I think Prim/Williamson/Green/Mosley were easy, after that it was really tough between Reeves, Sturtz, Carter, Roberts.

SIU did get a player on the team.

Actually Loyola is the top defensive team, followed by Bradley, then SIU. PPG allowed doesn't mean much unless you factor in pace of play and #of possessions data, which is what defensive efficiency does. Loyola was # 43 in Def E, Bradley # 52, and SIU # 86.

Did you not watch games or review stats ? Mast and Sturtz both averaged 11 ppg, Mast had slightly better rebounding figures , but not by much. Despite being only 6'3 Sturtz shot .100 better [ Mast .48 to Sturtz .59] from the field , a huge difference, and Sturtz led his team in steals . It ain't about size or athleticsm, it's about production. Sorry . Sturtz ain't on my team, but he earned every accolade that comes his way. I like Mast, would have put him on 2nd team, but not over Sturtz; kids a gamer ,winner.

You're conveniently forgetting minutes played......take a look how many more minutes Sturtz played over Mast

I don't think many people factor that in, and it certainly doesn't help explain why a 6'3 guard shoots 100 pts better than a 6'9 post player. I'm not dissing Mast , I like him. But Sturtz is easily one of the 10 players in the Valley who consistently impacts games he's in. He scores, he rebounds, he gets steals, he defends multiple positions, and he has that thing , that knack, of making key plays at key moments. He'd be on every combination of MVC all stars I put together. MSU has a Sturtz type kid in Isaac Haney who made the All Freshman Team, luv that kid; he can shoot a bit better than Sturtz from 3 , have to see if he develops the same knack for the moment.

Thats because Mast shoots threes and Sturtz can't. Mast and Sturtz are both top 10 players in the league. I had Mast 1st team and Sturtz 2nd but both players should definitely be closer to 1st team than they are to 3rd. Also in MVC games (which is all I - and many others - consider), Mast averaged 13.9 and 8.7 while Sturtz averaged 12.2 and 8. Close but Mast is slightly better. Add in that Bradley beat Drake twice and those are the reasons why I had Mast over Sturtz.
