The only way that is legitimately attached to the university's logo/image/reputation would be through a contract that the NIL cooperative signs with the university.
In a phrase, the Indiana University Hoosiers basketball team is not the same thing as the IU-sponsored NIL All-Star team. If they want the right to be called that, then they gotta talk turkey.
Of course, the puffed up boosters won't see it that way. Braggin' rights come with front-row seats at the Grand Event.
I don't see any P-5 programs endorsing this conversation and the wannabe mid-majors don't have the clout or the courage. To say, "You want to represent our school, use its fieldhouse or any facilities we rent or maintain, and our TV streaming/radio rights? Yeah, then pay us!" ... eventually, these NIL cooperatives (or another term, collective) will need to come to Hay-Soos about who they are.
The flip of this is that universities generally get extra money when their sports teams make national news. They might be more than satisfied to let somebody else do the legwork for them.
There is really no need now to give out scholarships to top athletes. The rest of them can go to a D-3 program and get the same education.

1] Only 1 in 12 players entering the portal transfer up; the rest are either lateral moves , transfers down , or :
2] 47% of those entering the portal never play basketball at the college level again [ this one I think is high, but I know the # is pretty significant
3] A player that transfer once has a 15% greater likelihood of not getting a degree, and it increases with each transfer
Again no source and I'm not saying these are totally accurate, but even so, they paint a different picture of the portal than many think. Would really like to see an official study and results ,
