Postby RacerJoeD » September 11th, 2022, 10:48 am

Murray St’s 2023 recruiting is off to the Races now with two commits.

First, was 6’9” PF John McCrear from Lexington, KY.

Chose Murray over a rash of MAC offers and one from Arizona State. McCrear is being touted as one of the top ‘23 prospects in Kentucky.

Most recently the Racers went and picked another highly touted

Lawrent Rice, 6’3” CG out of Ohio. Rated a four star prospect by ESPN, he chose the Racers over a plethora of HMs

These guys don't choose MVC schools over high majors. They really don't. And that's ok.

I think you will find that the landscape for HS seniors has changed. the blue chips will go where they go, but the second tier HMs are going to use the transfer portal, JUCOs, and HS seniors are often the hind teet. They will be recruited, offered and some will be taken, but those other HMs will always be looking for transfers. Some of these HS seniors will not want to wait, they will want to be settled, and so will commit to smaller schools that make them a priority. Below is some reading on these guys. They are generally believed to be among the top five player in their state for 2023.

By the way, when I put on there offers from HMs, in this instance these are widely reported and sourced.

I am not saying MVC players didn't have those offers at one time.

What I am saying is that when the day came for a decision they aren't lining up all the schools and choosing the MVC school. All of the offers weren't equal at that time. Of course it has happened before - but not nearly as often as the times fans, coaches or media say "player X chose MVC school over the following P5 schools."

There's a big difference between an 'offer' and a 'commitable offer'.

I do understand that. However, for a player just outside the top 150, most of these offers are actual offers. They can and do get pulled if another player takes an offer.

The reality is that with free transfers and, at least apparently, unlimited tampering, teams in the P5, aside from those at the very top of the pecking order, are throwing out commitable offers to ensure that they dont get left without players.

I wouldn't be so adamant about this, especially in the case of Rice, but all the info points to real, commitable offers from P5 schools. This is similar toBrian White, the JUCO PG the Racers got for '22. These guys weren't under the P5 radar, they just chose to go to Murray State.

I believe this to be the product of good recruiters, the move to The Valley, and the recent NBA track record of Murray St guards.

Murray had all of those highly touted recruits coming in but hardly any of them play this season. Are they just not that good?

We have had two freshmen crack the rotation and have shown some stuff. The guy from Arizona is redshirting this season and that was decided before the season started. The other guys I guess they haven't done enough in practice. Because its not like all of our starters have been setting the world on fire.
