We may very well wind up 7th or 8th place but that has hardly been settled yet. Last night was even closer than the score and this brand new bunch of Racers has another month to figure things out. Nobody knows how things will shake out.

Will the SIU/Murray rivalry be like the ISU/Bradley rivalry where the fan bases cheer for each other at Arch Madness?

The only thing I’m gonna chip in here… I believe a Racer fan defended Burns on here when people called him a head case by basically saying that “He plays to the crowd and dances to the music, but he’s not the kind of guy that gets in your face. But some people won’t like him anyway because of that (or something similar to this)”.

Do you still believe this? Dude got a technical with Rupert tonight, got involved in the handshake line, and went after an ignorant old man in the crowd. I believe that the “getting in your face” line was crossed multiple times lol.

We'll never know because they're never, ever good at the same time.

Rivalries are fun and great for the league. This is how you make games feel important on a Tuesday night in January.

ISU/BU has been fun, but it's been rare in the last decade+ where the game has meant something to anyone outside of those two fan bases. To your point, they just haven't been good at the same time to really have strong implications in the league. This year, the Birds hope to play spoiler. I have BU covering tonight. It opened around -12 and has since ballooned to -15.

It's been a while since there has been a real heated rivalry in the league that all fan bases kept an eye on. I feel like it was ISU-Wichita State from around 2014-17. Those were games where a brawl could've broken out at any given time. I mean, something happened in the bowels of Redbird Arena after one of the games.
Marshall and Muller absolutely hated each other. The fan bases didn't get along. Burned in my brain forever is ISU @ Wichita and Ron Baker got DEMOLISHED on a completely legal screen set by Will Ransom. Birds lost that game but it was good to see Baker run into a wall. :D There were some fun games in that span between the two, especially in STL. Though they ultimately led to a let down on Sunday, there were two Saturday wins that sent the Shox home that were absolutely glorious.

As far as Murray/SIU. Bring it on! I love the fiery nature that comes with sports. Keep it clean, the contact between the lines and talk all the trash you want. In this situation, having only seen the video, the students on the court didn't cause the situation, but they definitely didn't make it better. I totally get SIU players/staff wanting to interact with them. Muller had established a tradition that after wins, the players would go into the stands and sing the fight song. Perhaps that is something to look into to potentially avoid something like this in the future?

I've got my popcorn ready and am hopeful Murray/SIU meet up in STL.

I'm here for the two most rural and Southern fan bases calling each other redneck type slang words.

Tap the brakes dude. This was one game.

Bradley/ISU have had dozens of those type of games in the history of the rivalry.

You won't find this Redbird fan rooting for Bradley in any game ever.

To put a part of last night into context, there's been a new tradition this year that at the end of the game (I'm assuming it's after wins, but then, that's all there has been recently), the team comes down to the end of the floor where the DawgPound is, along with the cheerleaders and shakers, and take a picture with the kids in the DawgPound. I am guessing that's why some people think that the SIU kids were "rushing" the floor after SIU won the game. Heck, before the "fight" broke out, Bryan (Mullins) was in the crowd, high-fiving the students.

Murray and Carbondale are true rural college towns where the Universities drive the local economy. Every town has its share of questionable people, especially Peoria. That town resembles a ghost town ever since Caterpillar bolted.

The weird part is… as I’m still s*** talking Murray fans on Twitter, it’s time for me to basically want them to win games because they’re probably out of the race for the title. Now they need to go beat Belmont to help us out

Honestly, Salukis were fortunate to win this game. Murray has some athletes that can simply get up and down the court. They also have three excellent shooters who could someday play in the league IMO. They might be starting to gel like other teams will do towards March.
The defense SIU is currently deploying is winning many of these games. I hope they can sustain it. Some would like to see an SIU vs Murray Arch Madness game in The Lou. I personally do not. It's extremely difficult to defeat a team three times in the same season. Nuff said.
