New Budgets Released

Postby IWokeUpLikeThis » March 21st, 2023, 10:59 am

The government uploaded new budgets last week. Goes through each conference with a list of school rankings at the end.

There have been some changes in the MVC.

Is Milwaukee really spending 5.7m per year to not win the freaking Horizon League?

ILSTs numbers may be skewed the next year or two, still paying Muller. I don't believe they paid him a lump sum so he was on the books for this and next season around 1 mil in total.

Are the links/sources provided at the end? (I didn't ffwd to check). Would love to just link to the source data if available.

Also, the delay in data is usually because as non-profits, their tax filings (990 form) their reporting cycle is as follows:

They file for the previous year - the following year the form gets released. So when information is drawn from the 990's, it's really a snapshot of 3 years ago.

It has the source listed as:

Department of Education’s
Equity in Athletics
2021-22 Expenses
Released March 15, 2023

The government website does have those budgets, but you have to search manually for each individual school. They don’t have a spreadsheet or database that lists every school.

Something to keep in mind, they count scholarships as part of that budget. As an example, Valpo spent 2.6 million but they get to count 62k per person in scholarships as part of that budget. Indiana State is $35k. Assuming 12 basketball scholarships that’s $324k difference in basketball alone. It makes schools with higher tuitions seem like they’re spending more than they are in reality.
