Another Expansion/Realignment Thread

Wonder what the secondary effects of this are going to be. Interesting move for Delaware but who does the CAA take and what other moves does this set in motion? Now suddenly it makes sense that the MAAC is at 13. Maybe they knew a move like this was coming and one of their members was headed to the CAA. Wonder who CUSA will take to get themselves to 12 (or beyond)? I don't expect this to impact the MVC at all but it's still intersting.

One has to wonder which other schools will pursue moving up before the fee to do so jumps exponentially at the end of the academic year.

A tweet came out today saying that ETSU and Chattanooga are fully committed to exploring expanding their conference but other schools in that conference are not cooperating. This brings up my question. What would be the opinion on a program like Chattanooga joining the MVC if we did further expand? I know that they have had basketball success but I’m not sure if they were ever brought up on here before. And I don’t know any of the important details (such as their athletic department spending and such).

Chattanooga would be the perfect replacement for SW Misery State. Probably a better program too.

I would be all for Chattanooga and ETSU being added. I thought they (especially ETSU) would be interesting if we ever got Belmont (though I didn't realize at the time how far East ETSU is. And this was when they were really good I think they've fallen off since then a little bit.Now I see Chattanooga as the superior add between the two but both are strong. I also think they (especially Chattanooga) would strengthen women's basketball as well but I'm not as certain on that. If they would come and the MVC had the appetite for it I would be for it because I think they could make the conference stronger but I don't see it happening. We have to consider that both of these schools would have to pay the SoCon $2million EACH in order to jump to another FCS Conference and I just don't see the juice being worth the squeeze there. File this under never happening for that reason alone.

We're also not going to replace one school with two. If MSU left the MVFC would be down 2 schools since WIU is joining the OVC for next season.

ETSU has been rocky both with their records and also with head coaches since Steve Forbes left and Chattanooga too to a lesser extent.

I also don't know if Drake and UNI would be okay with schools being added so far away.

I would say UNI would be a hard no to adding more schools from Appalachia.

We can talk all we want about who would theoretically replace Missouri State but I think two things are probably true:

1) They most likely aren't leaving.

2) If they do, it's going to be Kansas City to keep a presence in Missouri.

If the MVC is adding a school that's out of footprint for majority of the league, it's going to be a school in a heavily populated area (e.g. DFW, MSP) and easy to fly to. No chance schools from Iowa or Chicagoland or Central IL are voting in someone from Appalachia.
