Anyone who has watched Southern closely the past few weeks, and especially the past few games, can tell that Xavier Johnson has lost explosiveness and is showing signs of wearing down/fighting through injury. It's a shame because he has had an outstanding season. He is still dishing a lot of assists and playing his ass off (witness diving on the floor twice on the same play in the final minute at Evansville), but his scoring and burst are not what they were in November/December/early January.

I'd actually be in favor of either sitting Johnson completely or at least really limiting his minutes in Peoria (a likely loss anyway) and trying to get him a little fresher for UNI (will dictate the Arch Madness bye) on Sunday. But ... Mullins and Johnson are both fierce competitors and more than a little stubborn in Mullins' case, so I'd expect him to lace 'em up on Wednesday and push 38-40 minutes again unless his health further backslides.

UNI took care of Valpo in a game that wasn't ever really competitive. The 14 point margin was much closer than the actual game. UNI led by 25 for most of the second half. Valpo was without Schweiger (illness).

Tytan Anderson was just shy of a triple double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.

Halftime across the Valley

UIC puts up 44 as the Flames lead Drake by 6.

Indiana State up 40-31 in Evansville.

Bradley leads SIU by 10.

Bears up 36-33 at Redbird Arena.

Belmont up 8 in Murray.
