I think with the addition of Jurrell Baldwin this morning, the Bears are down to needing 5 or 6. Tommy P is the son of a big booster we gave a scholy to last year when we had an extra; he had been a wo, so his scholy status is unclear. Bears rumored to be in the lead for Austin Peay transfer Dez White, 6'2 guard who was on the all freshman team at AP and who originally was recruited by both Ford and Zo, signed with MU, but then Zo got fired. If we get him, we're in pretty good shape in the backcourt, but need a wing or two and a couple frontcourt bigger bodies.

Official signing period might end then, but teams will continue picking up players after that. They just won't be able to sign a Letter of Intent.

The Redbirds fill their final scholarship with 6'9 transfer out of Ole Miss, Cameron Barnes. He redshirted this season as a true freshman and was a top 150 coming out of high school.

In his high school days, Barnes was a two-time national and three-time state champion at Duncanville High School. He also averaged six points and five rebounds per game and shot 40 percent from three as a senior. I'm assuming the low totals were because he had a great team around him. He's more of a stretch 4.

The Redbirds will look different in '24-'25. Last season, they played a lot through Myles Foster in the post and really struggled hitting the 3 (bottom 15 in the country in 3pt%). This coming year, the plan seems to be to spread teams out, hit threes, and taking care of driving lanes. The lone "traditional big" on the roster is Sophomore, Chase Walker at 6'9, 280. His weight continues to come down and he's been looking scary in some off season workout photos.

The roster is set. All seniors are in their final year of eligibility.

Returners:
6' G, Johnny Kinziger - Soph
6'6 G, Ty Pence - Soph
6'9 F, Chase Walker - Soph
6'3 G, Malachi Poindexter - Sr
6'3 G, Dalton Banks - Sr
6'5 G, Jordan Davis - Sr
7'1 F, Brandon Lieb - Sr

Incoming:
6'3 G, Cade Norris - Fr
6'8 F, Jack Daugherty - Fr
6'5 G, Boden Skunberg - Sr (via NDSU)
6'4 G, Landon Wolf - Jr (via UNI)
6'10 F, Caden Boser - Sr (via Valdosta State)
6'9 F, Cameron Barnes - R Fr (via Ole Miss)
6'9, 260 F, Nick Feather - Fr, PWO.

All Fs listed are really more stretch 4's that the traditional 5, outside of Walker and Feather (ironically, enough).

UIC has 4 schollies left. It appears that Coach Ehsan is taking his time vetting a particular type player. Culture, attitude and fit are what he's looking for. So far, he's recruited/signed more 6'9" guys than during Coach Yak's entire 4 years.

Bears are down to just one open scholy, but have 13 players with preferred walk-on CJ Gaines.
