New Scheduling Directive: 4 Projected Q1/Q2 Games OOC

One thing was clear in talking to those in the league office, coaches at the helm or athletic directors overseeing programs: The Valley's present focus is more targeted toward getting a second team in the NCAA Tournament via an at-large bid. For the first time, the league this offseason put into play a scheduling directive requiring all its programs to book at least four games with projected Quad 1 or Quad 2 teams in its nonconference schedule.

The "projected" part is not exactly right. They have to schedule four Q1/Q2 games based on the list of teams from the last two seasons. I guess you can say those would then be "projected" to be Q1/Q2 - but they get the credit based on past results, not how the teams on the schedule finish the season.

Valley schools also have to hope that those Q1 and Q2 schools will commit to actually playing them.

Unfortunately we cant have any control over that. We should charge a premium for cancelling with less than a certain time to go.

There are a fair amount of Q1/Q2 schools who aren’t P5. Now - the Valley schools who had the hardest time with the mandate this year were the ones who weren’t Q1/Q2 schools themselves. It was a lot easier for a Bradley/UNI to get a game than an Illinois State or UIC.
