If the MVC was planning on waiting out the rest of the 5 year transition period before formally inviting St Thomas, that's no longer a concern.

Between that and the fact that their new stadium has broken ground and is well under construction, there shouldn't be any reason the commissioner isn't on the phone with them asap

I think St Thomas is probably the best option in the midwest at this point.

You don't even need to add "midwest". There's no other team the MVC could pull that is better than them.

A minute ago, Toledo emerged as a nice potential addition to the Valley in the wake of NIU’s inclusion into the MWC. St. Thomas is still a better draw?!

They would help Drake & UNI travel wise…something that Toledo can’t do.

It's the private money. They have indicated they are willing to spend.

St Thomas will have the best mix of $$, healthy school admin and support, metro size, travel location, and program upside in the next 2-4 years.

There’s no one else who has that mix currently. They might have a couple, but not all. They’ll be the add if we choose to do so, unless the publics, football, or the Tommies themselves don’t want it

St Thomas is also a member of the PFL with Drake and VU. Play among peers for football.

So then, things just got a bit more interesting. The NCAA just adjusted the transitional probationary period. Missouri State is leaving The Valley after this season. St. Thomas will be a full fledged Division I athletic program and available July 1, 2025 for realignment. Does the Valley stay put at 11? Does it send an invite to St. Thomas? Does it do what D1 360 predicts and poaches Northern Kentucky from the Horizon? Will they stop at 12 or go to 14?

OH BOY, IS THIS GREAT!

I'd be almost shocked if we didn't play with 11 the next few years until we really understand what the P5 are going to do to the NCAA tournament distributions and what the House Settlement does.

Scheduling becomes a pain for non-revs but flights into Nashville are cheap if you make Belmont the lone wolf, er, bear.

I completely agree with this sentiment. I think the Valley was smart in adding UIC, Murray, and Belmont after Loyola left but I don't think we need a replacement right now for Missouri State. As long as they can figure out the scheduling.

St. Thomas looks like a great add from both a market and program perspective, but they aren't going anywhere. We aren't fighting anyone for the right to have the Tommies join the conference. 5 years ago, 10 years ago I'd say add a school like them in a heartbeat. But it feels like now, more than ever, College Sports is at a tipping point with NIL, Realignment, Transfer Portal, House Settlement, etc... Until we know what college sports is going to look like moving forward I think we should be conscientious about adding more schools.

And if they do somehow jump straight from the Summit to the A-10 or Big East then what did we realistically lose? A few years in the Valley, maybe a conference title. I know they're transitioning, but they haven't won their league regular season yet. I don't think we should assume they'd bring in extra NCAA tournament units every year to divide among the conference.

I wonder if we could schedule with another conference with an odd number of teams for the odd team out every game night. That is the annoyance of going forward with 11
