Another Expansion/Realignment Thread

The OVC format was essentially tailor made for Murray St. and Belmont, since they were usually in top spots that received the double-bye. So it's not surprising to see a Racers fan enjoyed it.

I totally understand why. Smaller conferences don't have much margin for earning at large bids so stacking the deck for your best teams isn't unreasonable. The posters here probably remember Indiana State upsetting Wichita State in the Arch Madness semis in 2011, and taking the MVC's autobid. Both Wichita and Creighton were sent to the NIT that year, a year when one of them could probably have made some noise.

To be fair, the WCC has also adopted it to protect Gonzaga and St. Mary's.

I think the primary reason the OVC does their tournament the way it does is so that they can use the same facility for the women's tournament (in the morning /early afternoon) and the men's tournament (in the evening). The OVC also does women's and men's doubleheaders throughout the season which saves all of the teams a little bit of money on travel. With the current format in that conference I'd just take the top 6 and get rid of their Wednesday games altogether. Those are just a complete waste of time imho, and no one really shows up to those either.

As for preference I definitely prefer a normal bracket where all of the teams make it in. If the Valley ever expanded past 12 to say 14, I would be in favor of only taking the top 12. There's no way I would ever show up to a Wednesday round in St Louis to watch 11-14 play each other.

Btw, did anyone see where the NIU AD had a quote yesterday saying they picked between the Horizon League and MVC? He’s totally twisting things. I’m sure there were communications, but no chance the MVC was actually going to offer them *and* they still picked the Horizon. Jackson just last summer said the MVC is only expanding if it helps for a second bid, Matt Brown repeatedly says the MVC isn’t interested in expanding, and there’s several schools who would not vote for NIU.

It reminds me of when Little Rock pretended they picked the OVC over the MVC in their press release a few years ago. These administrators have communications with a conference and then extrapolate it and pretend like they had interest for an offer.

That's just their job to spin things positively. I'm sure it was worded like: we talked to the valley and horizon and after the process decided to go with the horizon.

That way he's technically not lying, but the implication is different. Hopefully the huskies find success in their new arrangement, I've never had disdain for them
