WSU's Dirks gets the call

Postby iSASO » May 13th, 2011, 9:37 pm

The Detroit Tigers called up former Wichita State outfielder Andy Dirks on Friday afternoon.

Dirks, who attended Haven High, played two seasons at WSU after transferring from Hutchinson Community College. In 2008, he hit .388 with 11 home runs and 26 stolen bases for the Shockers, helping them to a super regional. He was named All-Missouri Valley Conference and a third-team All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

He is the fourth current Shocker in the majors, joining the Cubs' Koyie Hill, the Dodgers' Casey Blake and the Mets' Mike Pelfrey.
