It would appear they had two offers. They had an offer from Creighton for a home and home. A promoter offered X amount of cash for a nuetral site game with WSU. The RPI effect of either game had to be similiar. I am willing to bet it came down to money. The amount offered must have been more than what they felt they could make from a home game.

Have to say it. As much as the WSU posters mock Creighton's rented arena, they do pay a lot of cash don't they?

Paul noted the following as well which answers our previous question:
Boatright said the game will be considered a home game for WSU for RPI purposes.

I call BS on this one. The plane that Banowsky usually uses did not go there as near as I can tell. Maybe he is using a jet with a different tail number, but the usual one only went to Norfolk.

I'm not saying this isn't a good deal, I like WSU playing a game at IBA and wish they would play several a year. However I would think that WSU profits 125K a home game.

I don't doubt your number. What I assume though is that a full city owned arena with its suites has a much higher gross than a full WSU owned arena. Minus TV, UAB would not be getting a matching 115,000 if the game was played on campus. As the article said its probably also important for WSU to play games there to keep other local teams out of it. Its a smart business move, just like Creighton playing at the newly named Link.

They might profit $125,000 per game, but that would be about the ceiling. They make a lot more in revenue, but playing at Koch, they also must cover all of the expenses of playing at Koch. $125,000 guaranteed is an awfully good deal no matter how you slice it.
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

Not arguing 125K isn't a good deal, I like the IBA. I'm saying from a money standpoint I doubt it is more financially rewarding. Now there are other benefits involved here, as in WSU gets to do nothing in terms of setting this game up and running it, seems to me they just load up in a bus, drive 7 miles and get off and play for 125K. That is very sweet but if IBA was WSU's home that wouldn't be happening for every game.
