do you know which national team it is? Is it the full professional team

Yes

There hasn't been much international competition lately, so the status of the team (membership, have they been practicing, etc.) isn't known. Brazil normally has a respectable international team, so even if they're not exactly game-ready right now, the good result I'm expecting is based on players getting experience - not on winning the exhibition.

Good to hear. And I agree, the results aren't as important so much as the opportunity to work the new guys into the system and have some team/chemistry building through the extra practices and travel conditions.

I know UNI scheduled the teams they have played for a couple of different reasons: the first batch of three games were scheduled on three consecutive days to get some experience playing on consecutive days. Two of the games were against lower level teams so as to allow the younger players the opportunity to get into the flow and use more rotations. The last two games of the trip are against higher level professional clubs and have a little more time between them. I would think there may be a tighter rotation in the players used in these last two games.

Two more years would be reasonable, but to say it is completely history now when there are still one starter and two reserves (now starters) who saw a fair share of playing time during that season on the roster is a bit early. I would disagree that 06 and 10 have the same impact or there is no difference in them when the coaching staff from 06 for WSU is completely turned over and there are no current players to talk with recruits about the experience versus the players who are still at UNI as well as most of the coaching staff. I would bet the WSU coaching staff is touting their success over the last two years and the NIT title from last year with recruits more than what happened in 06 to recruits.

Again, the guys that made the s16 run happen are all gone. Tell yourself whatever you want, it happened two years ago, it won't happen this year and it will continue to fade into this thing called history.

It's something you should feel good about as a UNI fan. Sitting around and trying to figure out if what UNI did 2 years ago is more important than what WSU did 6 years ago is just silly and pointless.

Funny last year was completely forgotten in the initial argument or jab. Didn't UNI lose a home game in the CIT or CBI? Is that some more of that history deemed to be irrelevant?

Sorry I took this thread off topic.

Are there still players on the team from that season? Otherwise, it pretty much goes to ancient history.

Hate to break it to you but UNI's appearance is history as well. There isn't much difference in 06 and 10, both are in the rear view mirror and mean nothing right now.

I guess we could wait for 2 more years before we call UNI's tournament success meaningless, using your logic. Besides though some players may still be on the roster the guys that achieved the success are all gone now.

When the staff that took them to that NCAA appearence is gone then you could say that. Plus Jake Koch and Johnny Moran are still around and I believe they played a big role in that tourney. You're right though, they're both history but UNI wasn't a part of the original point
"Got it into Moran, final seconds TICK AWAY!! PANTHERS WIN! PANTHERS WIN! Oh BABY, I LOVE THIS TEAM!!! The UNI Panthers have just SHOCKED the College Basketball World. DOWN GOES KANSAS! DOWN GOES KANSAS!!"

The way I look at it, UNI, WSU, and SIU all got about the same long-term benefit from a S16 run - and that was nothing.

I'd imagine it's maybe 1 out of 20 avid D1 fans who can remember that UNI, WSU, or SIU made a S16. More recruits will remember UNI's S16 than WSU's or SIU's. I have yet to see any positive recruiting results for any of the Valley teams that have gone to the S16. SIU had a great run and part of that may have been their repeated S16's.

To the vast majority of national D1 fans and recruits - get to a S16 once and you're a typical mid-major flash in the pan. SIU got there twice in what should have been the memory of fans and recruits. That seems to have helped them dominate the Valley for a while, but the long-term result is that SIU is picked as a bottom feeder.

Much to my amazement, WSU is getting a lot of respect for the NIT championship. Probably more than if they had gone 1-1 in the NCAA's. As a fan, I'd rather see WSU go 1-1 in the NCAA's (or maybe even 0-1) than to see WSU win the NIT.

Butler and Gonzaga have gotten the attention of the nation and the attention of recruits. Gonzaga appears to be fading a bit. Butler is the current over-achiever that's got the attention of the nation.

When the public compares names like Northern Iowa or Wichita State to names like Texas or Michigan State, it takes UNI and WSU multiple S16+ runs in nearly consecutive years before the public recognizes that there may be a decent basketball program at our universities.

History only matters in relation to what the announcers can talk about during games when the action slows down or if it's a lopsided game.

Exactly.

That doesn't stop our university from boasting about how many NCAA tourney teams from last year we have on the schedule. UALR :o , Morehead St. (no Faried) :o , Richmond (young team), Illinois (young team).

They even went as far as printing how we will be playing Indiana St. (another NCAA team from last year). It sickens me to know that Jank will repeat every bit of it in his presser.

Of course you know they purposely released the non-con schedule right as he is about to take the team to Canada.

I guess they can say they're getting home games. Hope they aren't forking out much for them.

Canada might be tougher competition for them.

... but not surprised. It's as if someone at KU told Jank when he got the job to load up on patsies and that would be his meal ticket to a BCS job. The song remains the same. I don't think anything changes until our coach does.
