... but not surprised. It's as if someone at KU told Jank when he got the job to load up on patsies and that would be his meal ticket to a BCS job. The song remains the same. I don't think anything changes until our coach does.

I'll give it one more year. Since we have a new AD and he just started 1 month ago, it is likely that 95-100% of the schedule was completed when he arrived on campus. It was common knowledge around campus that previous AD Zenger focused 99% of his attention on football and let the other coaches do as they wish. New AD Friedman has already been on record saying that he will be more involved in scheduling... time will tell I suppose...

Obviously the basketball team isn't being allowed to spend money for better buy game opponents. Apparently the money is all earmarked for football stadium improvements....

It's not that money is being earmarked for the football stadium. This schedule is typical of what Jankovich has done since he arrived. Watch home attendance take another dive this year. RBA use to average over 8,000 for season & you could count on some sellouts along the way. Now they are lucky to get 4,000 and this is tickets sold not fannies in the seats. RBA is a very lonely place these days which is a shame considering it seats over 10,000. I didn't think I would ever say this but I've come to the conclusion that it's time for Jankovich to go away.

This really isn't a bad schedule for Illinois State. Of the schools to announce their non-con schedules so far, I rank them this way:

Bradley (best)
Illinois State
Drake
Missouri State
Southern Illinois
Indiana State (worst)

The ranking omits teams who might appear on a schedule, e.g. tournaments.
If your school has announced their schedule and is not listed above, say something.

Bears are guaranteed to be playing West Virginia and either ST. Mary's or Baylor, also I think you have to take into account road games vs home. Can't see the Bear's schedule that low with New Mexico, Nevada, ORU, ULAR,ASU on the road, Oklahoma St.& Tulsa at home, and West Virgina and either Bayloer/St Marys.
The Bear is the largest carnivore on the North American continent; beware the Bear!

...I have to agree with that. I haven't looked at most of them closely BUT, if D+ and Phelps can't muster up a good showing with that schedule then he and Lowery can start submitting their resume's together.

What is known for UNI at this point

What we know:
Oct. 31 Northern State (Exhibition)
Nov. 20 TBA McLeod Center (Western Carolina or probably Northern Colorado)
Nov. 22 TBA McLeod Center (Western Carolina or probably Northern Colorado)
Nov. 25 Rice South Padre Invitational South Padre, TX TBA
Nov. 26 Providence South Padre Invitational South Padre, TX TBA
Nov. 30 Iowa State Ames, IA TBD
Dec. 3rd Colorado State McLeod Center
Dec. 6th Iowa McLeod Center TBA

Home:
Iowa
Colorado State (MWC/MVC Challenge)
UW-Milwaukee
2 South Padre Island games (Western Carolina, TBA)

Away:
Iowa State
Old Dominion (2010 Bracket Busters game)
Bracket Busters (February date)

Neutral (at South Padre Island Invitational):
Providence
Rice

3 games left to get. Most likely it will be a game at a BCS school, and two additional home games to get to 16 home games for the year and a team playing without Kwadzo. One of those home games will be a guarantee game like Morehead State was this year where they came to UNI for just one game and UNI paid them to do so.

My ranking is based on the idea that a good schedule for Depaul is a bad schedule for UConn. In other words, imagine Southern Illinois and Creighton had the exact same non-conference games. Because SIU's expectations for 2011-12 are considerably lower than Creighton's, my formula would rank SIU's schedule higher than Creighton's.

MSU is an interesting case because they were a bubble team in 2010-11 and are not expected to do as well this season. I will admit that the formula is probably biased away from teams like MSU.
