Using http://www.geomidpoint.com/ I have determined the exact geographical midpoint of the MVC is just West of Hannibal, MO.
We can move it there and call it the MVC Twainament. Image

Seriously though, it seems like Saint Louis makes the most sense geographically.

If the tournament were to move to Chicago I would hope Sexton would send in our "resignation letter" immediately after receiving the news.

I have an idea, why don't we just have the tournament in Quest Center?

Because it doesn't exist anymore ;)

But seriously....it's better than Chicago.

Personally I would love a KC rotation but the only reason for Elgin to move it is more cash from KC.
And a decent chunk more cash.

As one of the uni guys said, Arch Madness is one of the more successful tournaments in the country. You don't invent a problem to fix. Yes CU and WSU fans would get a break on the drive, but unless the cash is there from Sprint Center, KC business community, ect then there is no reason to move it. zero. I think you would get less of an investment from either city if it was a rotation.

You don't move a successful tournament for new bars for the fans. You don't move it for a shorter drive for 2-3 schools, especially if they are already make the longer drive in big numbers.

IMO, the only reason to move it is better money.

Not trying to be a d here but distance isn't a subjective thing, it's shorter for 4 schools not 2-3.

:+1: I would never go to the tournament if it was in Chicago. I'm sure at least 3/4 of the rest of the fans would also stay at home.

It is an additional 250 miles for WSU fans to go from Wichita to Chicago as opposed to Wichita to St Louis. You propose increasing the distance that the fans who have the farthest distance to travel by an amount more than most schools would have to travel to either Kansas City or St Louis? Chicago would have a big impact on WSU attendance. St Louis is a one day drive. Chicago would mean flying or additional time off work.

WSU and CU fans are going to gripe about the tournament in St Louis. They have the farthest to travel so they have a legitimate gripe. Alternating between Kansas City and St Louis would even out the burden between different fan bases. I would be really curious to see a comparison of tickets sold in St Louis to the number of season tickets for each team.

The numbers are out there.

I'm pretty sure that you'll see WSU & CU at the top.

Moving the game to Chicago would have a pretty big impact on the number of CU fans that attend as well. I assure you that the number that go will drop off dramatically. If the number of CU & WSU fans drop off, the tourney probably set a record low in the number of tickets sold as the other schools just don't have as large of fan bases. We are already seeing a decline in tickets in StL, so I'm not sure the conference is in a position to risk losing even more sales. Additionally, I suspect it would cost a lot more to spend three or four days in Chicago than it would in STL or KC.

The reason I brought up KC in the first place is that if they lose the Big 12 tournament, they will probably be motivated (if not borderline desperate) to make a very competitive bid. The same opportunistic situation may not be presenting itself in Chicago. I think KC has the BIg 12 tourney for a few more years, so this wouldn't even happen for awhile, but I'd like to see the MVC to be in position to capitalize. I am convinced that if KC makes a competitive bid, the tourney could generate more money in KC than STL.

PS - did someone change the title of this thread?

St. Louis is about as well located as we're going to get. I'd LOVE it in KC and I think the fans would have a better experience, but Elgin isn't going to make that change. The eastern schools would complain so much and since their fan bases already don't support their teams in STL, the tournament would be a Creighton and Wichita home event.
