That call at the end of regulation was irrelevant. It was the one before it that screwed Butler.
I believe it was Ned Cox who shot a runner from the right side near the end of regulation. Colt Ryan pulls down the board near the baseline, then Jordan Jahr comes running down the lane and bumps Ryan, sending him out of bounds. Instead of giving the ball to Butler, they called a foul on Jackson Aldridge, sending Colt Ryan to the line for two shots, where he hit one and tied the game. Re-watched it half a dozen times and no Butler player even touched him before Jahr hit him with his shoulder.
The one at the end of overtime was worse. Colt Ryan misses a running layup and runs past the baseline. Andrew Smith pulls down the board and looks to pass, but as he does so, Colt Ryan comes from behind him, strips the ball, and lays it in. Great play, except he was standing out of bounds when he stole the ball. Basket counts.
Two absolutely unbelievable, incompetent calls.
Butler had plenty of chances to win that game and, if Smith makes either of those free throws it doesn't matter, but if that's what you guys deal with as far as officiating in the Valley, I'm glad we're in the Horizon.
