Let's talk Missouri Valley. Is a multi-bid year possible? And how about that Doug McDermott?

Eamonn Brennan (2:37 PM)

McDermott is quietly putting himself in position to get looks for national player of the year awards. He's been brilliant. As for the MVC, I think Creighton, UNI, Wichita State and Indiana State have all looked like they'll be in the at-large mix in time for BracketBusters. Following league play in the Valley should be a lot of fun this season.

I'm going to throw this out there now. McDermott is Creightons version of Gordon Heyward. They both even have the baby faces too.

I'd take that in a heartbeat. I'd love him to experience the success of a Heyward.

Weems - 64 points on 77 shots = .83 points per shot taken
McDermott - 142 points on 92 shots = 1.54 points per shot taken

I have a feeling there's something about Lusk that is affecting Weems. That stuff happens with coaching changes.

Nice stat Aargh.

One thing I've noticed about McDermott vis-a-vis Weems is that other fanbases don't hate McDermott (outside of UNI, but that is for a completely different reason) , whereas Weems' antics bring a lot of scorn. In this respect I kind of compare McDermott to Mullins of SIU - you hate that they are beating you, but the fact that they are always playing their ass off, yet don't talk a lot of smack causes you to respect the hell out of them. Maybe I'm wrong about this and some of the other fanbases (outside of UNI which has a perfectly reasonable reason for hating MCDermott IMO) will set me straight.

Weems, on the other hand, while a great player has some of that P'Allen/Jamar Howard in him that really serves as a lightening rod for anger by other fanbases.

I will say all of McDermotts's crazy stats have only served to make UNI fan's purple blood boil even hotter. I don't think there will be any let up when Creighton comes to town this year, and it might actually be worse.

All I know is if he keeps this up, he will certainly hear about it. Hopefully he is able to block all of that stuff out and just play basketball.

For the record. Last year I was ridiculed on our own teams website for calling McDermott a top 3 freshman in the country. Shortly after he was named to some freshman all american teams, made the USA 19u team and right now he is putting up Naismith type numbers as a sophmore. The kid is exciting to watch. He just wills the ball in the hoop.

I thought initially San Diego St. was doing an excellent job double teaming McDermott. His teamates weren't bailing him out for a while as they were getting smacked with a 17 pt deficit. They finally were able to stretch the defense enough to get him in some one on ones, but even when they were still double teaming him, he quickly learned how to fight through it.

Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised at how good he is already and he seems like a pretty good kid. I hope he and CU keep winning until Dec. 31st. Then they can lose that night and maybe a couple of others until the middle of March :Yea!:

I think he has surprised most everyone. He seems to be a great kid, grounded, hard working and a very likable guy. I am sure Dad keeps him that way also.

Looking forward to NYE....should be a great game and a great prelude to a fun evening. Win or Lose for the Jays, I am pretty sure I will be getting drunk! :buddies:
