They don't???

I don't. I respect McDermott a lot and would love to see him be an All-American. Weems is a punk and I would enjoy SWOMO losing the rest of their games and him scoring 0 points in all of them.

So far this year, the comparison between Weems and McDermott is unjustified. There just isn't any comparison.

On the subject of how other fanbases view Weems and McDermott. Weems can be a bit cocky, arrogant, and narcissistic. Maybe it's just against WSU - I think there's some bad blood because Turgeon didn't really recruit Weems all that hard. Weems' behavior during games - and his mom's behavior have made Weems look like a prima donna.

McDermott is earning respect - not hatred - other than from UNI - and I'd be a lot more hateful than UNI fans if the same thing happened to a WSU recruit. McDermott isn't strutting his stuff, pulling on his jersey after good plays, taunting opponents fans, and the other stuff Weems is known to do. McDermott just plays the game and lets his results speak for him. That gains and earns respect - not hatred.

Agreed. Despite the fact that I hate Creighton, I do respect the coach, program, and players. I may end up hating Dougie if we don't win our fair share against the BJs, but for now it's great to have such a good young player in the MVC.

You know I've watched CU play a couple of times this year and McDermott struck me differently. I watched him at several points do some fist pumps and such that is pretty similar to what Weems sometimes gets roasted for doing. And I don't mean that as a condemnation of Doug. I think he's a great young player. I love watching him play. I've said it before but most truly good players have a bit of cockiness and swagger to them. That's certainly true of both Kyle and Doug. Yes Kyle is a bit more demonstrative but I think the difference is less than perceived.

Kyle is playing better but so far it is no contest between the 2 this year. Last year the best player won the POY award. If the season progresses as it has so far I have no doubt it will be McDermott this year.

There's a difference between a fist pump and doing a full arm extended chest thump while staring down the other team's bench.

Someone posted that there were NBA scouts at the game today. Even though we lost, Dougie still put up impressive numbers.

Doug will be on the Scott Van Pelt show today. And not just because his name is Doug :D

He was going to be on that show but then the Dan Patrick show called his dad to be on so he decided to go on that show instead.

Obviously overlooked in these comparisons is that in head to head Kyle can guard and at least contain McDermott somewhat, but Doug can't guard an athletic guy from 20 feet in. McDermott is a great offensive rebounder and knows how to get position down low as well as anybody in the country, so he will get his points and rebounds even against good defense. But he can't create from 20 feet away against a athletic defender. And when the game was to be had in the last 3 minutes Kyle dominated McDermott.

McDermott is really really good, but right now the only important stat is 4-0 and 1-0; that's head to head MSU vs CU with the two on the floor, and the number of rings on Kyle's hand vs McDermotts. I'm sure Doug will get his, but maybe now he'll have to do that first before the rush to judgement starts again.
