I'd bet that UNI has among the best student attendance for any MVC school. I'm pretty sure we have one of the biggest, if not the biggest actual "student sections" in the Valley. The student section is the bleachers on the south end, and it seats close to 1,500. When school is in session, we usually do pretty well getting students in there. Sure, there are some games where it is not good, but on average, UNI does very well with student attendance.

All I know is attendance must be picking up at UNI, or they are just looking for the opportunity to harass Dougie. I called for tickets for the rematch on February 4 and it is sold out. We were going to meet some family and go to the game. If someone has extra tickets (I need 6), I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

There is little to no connection with those people and UNI, and it may as well be 4 hours away. Yes, some of that can be blamed on UNI, but I was just making a point about how Waterloo's population does not help UNI much at all.

Is there a reason that UNI doesn't reach out to the community more?

Maybe it has changed. How many students now attend regularly? How many seats are there in the student section? Do they stay the whole game or just until that little dance is over?

Does anyone keep seperate attendance numbers for students? They have the south end of the arena, and it's usually full. I've never seen large numbers of students leave after the interlude. When was the last time you were at the McLeod for a game?

No, separate attendance is not kept, but if you know how many seats are available you can usually make an educated guess by the percentage of the student seating that is still empty. I asked about the dance because I read some posts on panthernation indicating that a large number of students do leave after its over. I have only been to Creighton games there, but those aren't representative of your crowd as: (1) like most MVC schools, your attendance spikes when we come to town; and (2) Creighton fans buy a lot of tickets for games at your arena.

According to official numbers at the MVC site, only Drake and SIU have lower attendance than UNI. Therefore, I don't think it is unreasonable to assume that students aren't showing up in great numbers regularly...(Unless, of course, the only people at your game are students).

If the student section actually seats 1,500 and
If that section is usually full,

Then that means that you only get 2500 nonstudents going to games? Good grief!

Since Cedar Falls is a college town, where are all the university employees? Is it unreasonable to expect that some of the University employees might buy tickets? Heck, there probably is even some sort of discount for employees I'd suspect...

no, our weaker attendance games this year have been when the students are gone. We have had several home games on thanksgiving and xmas break this year. When the students are not on campus, we hardly get any students.

You had 4015 for the Colorado St. game while school is in session! If the student section is full, where is everyone else? I feel like we may be beating a dead horse, but if UNI in the next couple of years isn't doing well in basketball, what is the attendance going to be then?

Am I missing something here? Do wins count more if more people are in the stands?

No, but it does hurt the bottom line. What happens if Jake decides to leave and they need to hire a new coach? UNI has been lucky with Jake in that he doesn't leave for a higher paying job. Most coaches use a school that pays like UNI as a stepping stone which can really damage your program over time.

I'm glad you care so deeply.

The CSU game was a different story because on that same day at UNI we hosted a) a home playoff football game, b) NCAA volleyball tournament, and c) a very large wrestling tournament.
