No, it just seems like UNI is playing with fire and when Jake decides to leave they won't have the financial backing to get an up and coming coach. I like UNI and the Valley, but also want to see each school supported especially when the play on the floor/field deserve it.
How can you say we wont have enough money to hire another good coach when we already pay our coach more than the majority of the the other Valley schools? We have already proven that we can pay.
What does UNI pay? What do the other Valley schools pay?

Before the Sweet 16 season, Jake made $289,000, which was 7th in the Valley. The contract he signed in March 2010 was for $450,000 a year with annual increases of $25,000 through the length of the contract, 10 years.

I don't know for certain, but I would have to think $500k is easily in the upper half of the MVC.

There has to be a site that has listed all salaries for men's basketball coaches, but I can't find it. I believe 500k would put him behind (in no paticular order) Marshall, McDermot, and Lowery.

I'm guessing that puts him 4th behind McDermott, Marshall, and Lowery unless I'm missing something.

So that makes him at least 5th in the Valley.

:Bam:

There is just no pleasing you guys is there. Sheesh, this might be a short lived residence on MVCfans if belittling each other is this prevalent. Is this freak occurrence or have I just not been around long enough to know better? This thread has about 5 pages related to the game and now close to 8 pages that are focused on UNI and all of the problems we should supposedly concern ourselves with. It's a great time to be a Panther and it will continue to be so for many many years. You worry about you and we'll worry about us. Deal?

Also as someone who was somewhat recently a part of the UNI Greek system, I'm pretty sure there is nothing that qualifies as a "major fraternity/sorority event" and if there was no one outside of the Greek community would care. You can criticize that area of the University of Northern Iowa and how it is run all you want and I will probably agree with every word. We'll leave it at that.

Hang in there. I've watched this thread only peripherally and don't think anyone is belittling anyone. What I do think, however, is that people aren't terribly tactful in what they're trying to get across. Most everyone here wants what is best for UNI and the Valley and would love to see better attendance by fans of many of our schools.

To me, this discussion regarding UNI's attendance specifically is sort of like this: You tell your wife that she's overweight. You might mean it in the nicest way and you truly just want her to be a bit healthier, but there are probably better ways to get the message across.

UNI fans, you need to shut up on the attendance thing. It sucks! Student attendance is no where close to 1,500. Only the Iowa game has had a decent studnet attendance. Most of our students live within an hour of CF, why not drive back for one of the games over there holiday break if they love atteding the games so much.

I live 1 1/2 hours away and have made every regular season game except the Loras game (gave the tickets to a family, and they went). I have an 8, 6 and 3 year old and took them to most of the games. If the whole family didn't go, I found others to go. The Iowa game, we had 11 tickets.

The AD needs to figure out if the students are not in town, do something to promote the attendance. If you have season tickets and can't go, give your tickets to one of these poor families from Waterloo that you speak of.

I saw on the Creighton websites, one of the bars were promoting free shuttles to and from the game. It has become a part of there culture to go to games.

In defense to UNI, our attendance figures are through the gate, not tickets sold. Many schools do use tickets sold. I posted an interesting article on Panther Nation about this: http://lubbockonline.com/interact/blog-post/courtney-linehan/2010-07-20/how-measure-basketball-attendance
