I think you make some legit points, but your statement above couldn't be more wrong. Every single coach in the league has tried to create a strategy to try to stop Doug. He routinely faces double teams and often triple teams. He most certainly alters the game and, in my opinion, in a much greater way than Stutz does.

Stutz impacts games because of the fact that against almost every single conference opponent he is the biggest and tallest guy on the floor. To paraphrase the coach at Bradley, Doug impacts games because against almost every single conference opponent he is the best player on the floor.

The reason I said that Stutz alters the game more than Doug is because teams often have to play a reserve with greater size more minutes to guard Stutz. They also have to use a PF for help leaving an open PF on the floor. This is purely due to size. Due to most Valley teams lack of depth at the center, this is more game altering.

McDermott, OTOH, can often be guarded by a PF or SF. There are many more good defensive forwards in the league and even if you are doubling, you still have a center to clog the middle.

It isn't about how they play that alters the game, as much as it is the position and the greater need to alter a game plan for a 7 foot center.

Why? He isn't leading the league in that. His rebounding per 40 minutes is several boards below Stutz.

considering stutz is 7', 255, and McDermott is 6'7 220, I'd say it's pretty impressive.

Combine that with his scoring average, and he's only a sophomore, it's really impressive.

Like I said earlier, I can't even believe there is a discussion about this.

I've watched every Creighton conference game and there have been very few teams that have tried to cover Doug with only one player. And for those that have tried it, Doug went off for 35-40 points. Also, the few coaches that tried it in the first meeting did not try it in the second meeting....

I certainly hope that WSU tries it Saturday though.

One other issue that you are omitting here is that a team can't always just pull its center over to help out on Doug because Echeneque is then left with a very significant mismatch.

The template to beat Creighton is to clog up the middle and hope the three point shooters aren't hitting open shots. If they aren't, you win.

WSU effectively covered him one-on-one. Others have not been so lucky.

I didn't say a team should pull a center. I said they could pull a SF and leave their center to clog the middle. Same issue though...you leave Gibbs ungaurded.

Same template to beat WSU. However, WSU still tends to score inside even with the lane clogged.

wonder what the value of the exposure is that McDermott's given to the Valley? If he doesn't win the award the voters whiffed terribly.

Back when people were making fun of Patrick O'Bryant becoming a lottery pick, I said that every MVC player that makes the NBA helps every single one of us when it comes to recruiting. The exact same thing is true when any MVC player is up for national player of the year.

This entire thread is nothing but an effort to troll. In nolther thread, I mentioned that Stutz has "joined the discussion" for PoY. He has. At no point did anyone indicate he was going to win the thing. Just that he's i n the dicussion. there are probably 5 or 6 players in the discussion. Stutz only recently joined that group.

A CU fan is so incensed that someone would suggest that anyone other than McDermott is in the discussion that he started a new thread. The purpose of the OP seems to be that no one other than McDermott is allowed to be in the discussion.

Talk about thin skin. I guess the name "PricklyPete" should be a clue.

I think Wichita St is better with Stutz on the bench.

If Stutz hadn't been in foul trouble today it would have been a blowout! ;)
