If the Blue Birds had lost the game, it would have been their fourth loss in five games.

Then Ace Dad's question about the NCAA bubble would have been ominous.

The Jays had to win this game. There was a national audience and the 3 losses in a row may have tilted the final decision if St Louis became a poor performance. This win, IMHO, seals the deal for an at large bid, as long as the Jay do not do something stupid like lose he next 3 Valley games..................

No one knows wether this coaching situation is difficult in the McDermott house or not except the McDermotts. The fact of the matter is you know no more than I do about how things are going in their house under their roof. Its none of my business and its none of your business. I do not agree with those that think or infer that they know whats best for another family. You commented on what you thought looked on TV hundreds of miles away as a low point. If that was not your intent then why start the thread?

To talk about fathers coaching sons, a long-time topic among people who follow basketball. Did you note that I mentioned that Marty Simmons (the man who recruited my son to Evansville) may one day have to make the same decision. Did I disparage Coach McDermott? Did I disparage Doug?

You must be new to the board.

You included a quote and some of their opinions from ESPN that were not very flattering. The quotes make it appear as if what Greg did was wrong. The quotes make it appear as if they are having a tough time. That is where my reaction came from.

Blue, I did not see the confrontation. I read the article and while reading the article I thought of all the times during both my sons' AAU, high school, and college days, how father/coach and son/player combinations were a challenge.

So, I simply posted the ESPN piece to see if others thought it was a challenge. If you go back and see there were 10 responses to the initial post and no said: "Ace Dad, you jerk, stop picking on the McDermotts."

Now, do you have a son in the 20s so you can relate to the difficulty of being a father to an adult son? If so, imagine having to be father and a coach at the same time and trying to walk that tightrope.

In the military we do not let a son serve in the unit as his dad, if it can be avoided. Imagine a two star general having his 23 year old son under his command? But, basketball is different then the military.

I guess I wonder where this came from. There were 3 father-son college combos last year and their stories made Sports Illustrated. No mention of any issues. None. Very positive piece. I never wondered about it for a second and thought what an advantage. I thought what a great thing. Why all of the sudden did it become such a big issue with you? And yes I have coached my children and yes 3 of my kids are at or older than college age.

Then you understand the difficulty.

No one is picking on Creighton University. Especially me. Creighton University has the type of program and team that Evansville is striving to get.

U-N-C-L-E

PS: May the Jays come out Tuesday night emotionally worn-out from playing "The Beach" and over confident because they are playing lowly Evansville and may your 3 point attempts clang off the rim and may your defensive step be one step too slow. My biggest fear is that your 3s AND your post game is going to kill us.

If McDermott plays against UE like he did against The Beach, then we have no chance. Almost all his points came in or around the paint which is our weakness. His offensive performance was one of the best I have seen in many years and it was against a quality team. I only wish he would have signed with UE.

Even if he had signed with UE it doesn't mean he would have actually attended UE...
