How Many New Coaches Will We have in the MVC Next Year?

One? None? Two or more? I can't figure out how to do a poll here, but here are the candidates to be goners (with my percentage prognostication):

A. Chris Lowery (90%). Almost certainly fired after the season unless SIU can't afford it again. Would be interesting if Bruce Webber goes back to Carbondale.

B. Gregg Marshall (50%). A coin flip right now with a solid recruiting class and solid compensation at WSU. Already being speculated for jobs like Illinois, South Carolina, etc. A run in the tourney and he could easily become the "hot" mid major coach for hiring ADs. If the South Carolina job opens up the percentage goes to 60-70%.

C. Mark Phelps (20%). A frustrating year for Drake fans, but Drake had some legit injury issues this year. Could easily be one of the favorites next year with Simons and Rice returning, plus getting back Van Deest and Uhlenhopp from redshirt seasons. Probably deserves one more year to see how he does with everyone healthy.

D. Ben Jacobsen (15%). I rally only put Jacobson on the list for one reason: Tubby's seat at Minnesota seems to be getting a little warm. If they miss the tourney, which seems more and more likely every day, the seat would heat up more. If Tubby's fired, Jacobson would be a top candidate and many speculate it is one of the few jobs he would actually have interest in. Ongoing financial cutbacks within the UNI athletic department may also factor into the coach's decision making as it may be hard for the school to pay him more than he is currently making there. I've also heard Jacobson's name thrown around in this state as a replacement candidate at Nebraska, but I don't see any reason why he would consider that job. If Tubby does get fired, the percentage goes up to 50%.

Lowery for sure. How much can the Shox pay Marshall? If South Carolina offers 2.5M can WSU match that?

Jake is getting a pay raise every year for the length of his contract....

Minnesota is really the only job that scares UNI fans.

I doubt they could match that much as that would be over double what he makes now. I would bet that they could go up to 2 million, but that is just a guess.

He is at/over 500K right now, at base salary, with 25k raise every year, plus travel and other bonuses that most coaches get.....By the end of his contract he will be around 800k a season I believe.

Jacobson just seems different than other coaches....rather than taking a big pay day right after the S16 he asked for an extension at UNI, and didn't need a massive increase in pay. He also backed out of the A&M job which was well over 1 million per year.

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but what is the facination for the Minnesota job? Is he from there?

How is that so different from other coaches? Turgeon came back after his Sweet 16, only to leave a year later. Altman, kept coming back year after year (granted, he didn't have any sweet 16's, but did have plently of job offers).

The only two recent coaches that jumped as soon as they possible could were Keno Davis and Cuonzo Martin.

It may sound silly, but there is not much difference between northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.

Including Lowrey (which was a bad thing now) and Less as well. Less was probably because he didn't have a job offer though.
