Not a single acknowledgement that Marshall producing a winning program is good for the MVC. Not a single comment that producing an at-large NCAA team is good for the Valley. Not a single comment that an MVC team keeping a coach that produced a top-20 team is good for the league.

wow, this is embarrassing.

Ya, you pretty much are wrong. The only other school in the valley that can even claim to be comparable to wsu are the Bj's. I'm talking talent, resources, coaching, etc.

When did shocker fans get so arrogant? Most of the ones I have ever talked to have been pretty cool, but this year has really brought out some characters. Since when does flavor of the month all the sudden turn into elite valley school? Just look at the thread that was posted about the last 16 years. If any team has been close to the level of success of the jays in the past 16 years, it has been SIU.....not WSU. Win a MVC tourney championship and get back to me after that.

It's because this place is a cesspool of jealousy from the top down. Everyone loves to hate wsu, and I personally love it and it amuses me that grown men/women act this way.

You can read 100 different "tweets" and get a 100 different slants/names on who has been offered, how much and who has turned it down. Every media outlet has "sources close to the situation". Mos is BS. Personnaly, I never thought Marshall would leave. Living here in Wichita, I don't really buy into the jealously thing. Respect is earned. You can't ask for it.

Me thinks he thinks too much of himself.

Or there's a possibility that ADs all over the country "float" the "idea" of a job offer without technically making an offer to coaches. "What would you say to coming over here and coaching for $2M?" isn't a job offer ... but it is. And then when the coach turns it down, all is good. He turned down an offer to "move up," but the AD never actually made the offer, and thus wasn't spurned.

If you don't see the distinction there, and the only options in your mind are that one or the other is lying, then fine. You clearly are quite knowledgeable and certainly neutral.

He turned down NC State for $1.9M last year, and the ways in which NC State is a better job than Nebraska are so numerable it's not even worth getting into. Nebraska made unofficial offers to plenty of coaches that would never even think about going there, most of them bigger names than Marshall.

Nebraska offering Marshall $2M is hardly anything odd. That's something like $800k more than he's making now, to coach at a school that has never won an NCAA tournament game. Ever. And hasn't been to the tournament since 1998. Marshall has been to the tournament eight times since Nebraska last went. This isn't UNC ... Nebraska is damn lucky they got the Colorado State coach to go there, because that basketball program is the definition of a deadend job.

How many times has Marshall brought "the best horses" to the party in St.Louis and gone home empty handed? Gets old after awhile always being the favorite and then getting body slammed year after year doesn't it. Sorry I have to break my neutrality.........he is a dirt bag.

Probably should change the name then.
I would suggest you answer your own question. How often has Marshall brought "the best horses" and went home empty handed?

We might futher ponder the question, "how often has the league champion not won the post season tournament?"

WSU 2006 (under Turgeon, not Marshall)
WSU 2012 (under Marshall)

Anyone esle?

WSU 2011
MSU 2011

Remember that WSU and MSU were co-champions last year, and they both made like a tree in StL.

I'll have to agree that NeutralObserver needs a new name because whoever it is is not neutral.

Here is what I could find on mvc-sports.com. Over the last nine season, the #1 seed has won the tournament 3 times. The #2 has won 4 times and the #3 has won 2 times. The Valley is tough. If you have a bad day, even a lesser team can take you down. In any case, one of the top three teams has won for the last 9 years. Also, in 2011, Indiana State had gotten hot going into the tournament, so they were playing better than a 3 seed when it came time for St Louis.

2004: #1 seed SIU Tournament Champ UNI#2
2005: #1 seed SIU Tournament Champ CU#3
2006: #1 seed WSU Tournament Champ SIU#2
2007: #1 seed SIU Tournament Champ CU#2
2008: #1 seed Drake Tournament Champ Drake#1
2009: #1 seed UNI Tournament Champ UNI#1
2010: #1 seed UNI Tournament Champ UNI#1
2011: #1 seed MSU Tournament Champ InSU#3
2012: #1 seed WSU Tournament Champ CU#2

You are wrong, MSU was the outright champion in 2011.

Made like a tree?

MO State was a stop and a bucket away from getting the auto-bid... Hardly something to be disappointed about...
