Tyler was right. He had a second interview at Tulsa. He is also considered a top candidate for the Kansas State job.

The smart play on Jank's part would be if he is using the Tulsa interviews to leverage himself into the KSU job or if not, gets an extension/raise at ISU. I can't see him actually accepting the job at Tulsa, but I can see him trying to force the issue with KSU. "If you want me, you better hurry."

If he goes, is Royce Waltman available? Kurt Kanaskie?

I'll try to keep you all in the loop if I hear more, but I think BirdmanBB has it pretty well deciphered. The one caveat I would throw out there is the Bill Self factor. Self still has plenty of friends in Tulsa and has a good relationship with Jank. Those things could allow Tulsa to sweeten the pot enough to get him.

Basketball-wise, it's a wash. Financially, it's probably not.

Jank likely wants KSU, if he can get it -- I'm not sure he can.

What I'm hearing is that Danny Manning (KU asst.) is going to Tulsa.

http://www.kansas.com/2012/03/27/2273804/kus-hinson-manning-could-be-on.html#storylink=omni_popular

That story doesn't say it's a done deal, but the Eagle usually stays away from unsubstantiated rumors.

If Jank goes to KSU, their fanbase will go nuts. What KSU fans want and what they cn get are probably two different things, but there would be little support for Jank based on his D1 track record. They might get behind him as a former player, but think Jank is probably staying at IlSU.

Jank might be staying at ILSU but it sure sounds like he wants to leave!

I don't know if he really wants to leave, but in the end it's a business. He could very well leverage these interviews into an extenstion (he has 2 years left on his deal).

Tulsa is where his wife grew up and his mother in law still lives.

Kansas State is of course, where he went and played. That is the one I have always worried about.

Well now I KNOW he was just using them as leverage.

Waltman is working as commentator on the IU Hoosiers radio network. He's available if he's willing.
Kanaskie is working as associate head coach for the Penn State Nittany Lions. I'd say he's unavailable.

This trend of replacing MVC coaches with former MVC coaches is interesting. When does Dana Altman return, and at what school?
