Taking any of these rankings with a grain of salt pretty much goes without saying. Double for a poll that has NC State ranked at #4.

Despite being a WSU fan, though, Creighton deserves the pre-season accolades. They'll be the heavy favorites for the MVC championship and should be in the Top 25 all year. Not sure about #9, but I see them as a Top 15 team.

9 is a little high considering the most important position (PG) is up in the air. I would say 15-20 range is right.

I thought for sure they would be higher than that.

Are y'all talking about national ranking or conference ranking?

The pre-season polls obviously mean nothing at this point in time other than to be a topic of conversation. I just saw that an ESPN pre-season poll for the 2012-13 BB season has Creighton at #18. That seems more realistic.

I'm looking forward to seeing just how good the Jays can be next year. I think a key to their season will be just how involved they get Echenique on the offensive end. He really proved in that NC game that he can play with anyone. He really should be dominant on both ends this coming year. But it seems like he's the forgotten man on offense much of the time.

I think the keys for the Jays will be as follows:

(1) How Austin Chatman adjusts to fulltime PG (he's already a better defender and passer than Young ever was, but has not shown the ability to get to the basket as easily);

(2) The development of a slasher. Redshirt frosh Nevin Johnson could be key here but Jones, Chatman, Manigat and Dingman need to work on that part of their game as well.

(3) Improved defense, especially on the wings. This is another area that Johnson should help out immediately. As stated above, Chatman is already a better defender than Young ever was, so that should help too. Dingman's defense got a lot better as the season went along. Still lots of work to do here though.

TBJ listed some important keys to winning the MVC, but I do agree with glm38. The BJs national prominence will likely depend on how involved GE is on offense. There is no reason he shouldn't average 12 and 8 next season.
