changes are on the way, unfortunately the MVC will be reactive instead of proactive. no leadership?

Proactive? What should they do exactly? Don't say anything that includes SLU, Butler, Dayton, Xavier cause that isn't reality.

That's an uninformed statement.

There's really not much the MVC can do now, but a lot of that stems from not being proactive in the past. The MVC has done nothing since bringing in Evansville in 1994. In that same time period, the A10 after their latest expansion will have expanded outside their original footprint to include:

Midwest: Butler, Dayton, SLU, Xavier
South: Charlotte, George Mason, Richmond, VCU

They haven't just added a couple good teams, they have added a damn good conference on its own. For me, that is being proactive.

Agreed. The panic some are showing on here is laughable and clearly shows an interest only in the here and now.

Take Butler, they have had a nice few years, and have accomplished what no other mid-major has or will probably ever do again in making back to back championship games. But their overall history is pretty weak. Until recently, they played in front of 1500 people and were totally ignored by the Indy media. This year, their attendance has been mediocre and were outdrawn by over half of the MVC. THE YEAR AFTER BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCES! A couple of more years of not excelling in the NCAA, and they will be back to 1500 and no coverage.

SLU has been nothing short of a conference whore for the last 20 or so years, and yet, they are no more relevant today than they were when they were in the MCC or Metro. Xavier and Dayton are consistent programs, but neither is any better off than they were 20 years ago, especially Xavier. They had a nice program under Gillen, but a couple of more years with Chris Mack and this program will probably be in shambles.

My point is shaking conferences and moving rarely improves an athletic program. Butler's two magical seasons came as a member of the Horizon. Creighton has made a national name for itself, plays in a competitive conference and outdraws nearly every school in the country. What will improve by going to the A-10? Being in the A-10 doesn't make a mid major any better. Is there any MVC school, whose atheltic program is worse off than Fordham, LaSalle, Duquesne? Of course not.

The MVC has a fault line running down the middle between the privys and the public football schools. At some point, that could rupture, with Mo State and Illinois State leading the way. Until then, the Valley is the best option for all of the current members. There is really no need to panic about grabbing Butler.

Butler's lowest attendance in the past 20 years+ was in 1996 when they averaged 3,593 per game. They will be Top-25 preseason team next year, so they should be back in the dance. Believing their program will fall off and attendance will drop back to 1500 (when it never was there in the first place) is beyond idiotic. You're absolutely kidding yourself if you don't believe Butler would enhance the profile of the MVC.

Huh? Talk about uninformed statements.

They've made the sweet sixteen for about the last five years and have one Elite 8 in that time frame too. They also just got a commit from a five star kid and are one of the finalists for Alex Oriakhi (who is transferring from UCOnn).

I don't know what MVC school you are a fan of, but XU's success over the last five years or so is better than EVERY MVC school.

Rumor is that Butler, George Mason, and VCU will join the CAA on May 1.

edit: to be clear, all parties have denied this so far.
