If true and Jank is gone. I advise ISURed to take a page out of Bruce Rassmussen's manual for hiring a coach. Make it as quick decision as possible. THis ISURed team should be very attractive so I hope they already have a short list ready, especially since Jank has been flirting with jobs. You want to keep your current team together, the last thing you want is for guys to start looking elsewhere because of uncertainty. The longer this goes on if any players were on the fence will probably bolt and there goes the continuity and chemistry that was built last year. Of course it would help if you find a coach who will take a scholarship player away from another valley team who has the potential to become a 1st team all-american.

This a huge turn of events. I really don't know much about Jank and his coaching acumen, but Illinois State was going to be a really really good team next year. How much Jank actually had to do with everything coming together last season is a different question.

Very odd, is there something odd going on at ISUR that scared Jank (like they can't pay a decent salary), or is he afraid the expectation for next year would out him as a poser with no excuses?

so the question I have - what players will be transferring? And what recruits will decide to be let out of the LOI?

Based upon the Redbirds finish last season, many posters on this fine forum were breathless about the Redbirds' prospects for next season. I am not so sure that the gushing optimism is entirely justified.

Coach Jankovich's record at ISU is not that impressive and if, the victories over 200+ rpi teams are deducted from his win total, his win-loss record is not too spiffy.

I had the same reaction on twitter when I first heard this.

If his departure isn't accompanied by a lot of transfers, is this even that big of a loss? To me, few have done less with more like Jank.

That is my biggest concern and I think most redbird fans. I really like Jank, but don't blame him for leaving with SMU taking a complete gamble on him. Take the money before they realize what they just did.

I know Aaron Simpson tweeted about how he didn't see this coming and he had a big decision to make. Anthony Beane Jr.'s father is on the staff. If Jank and then Beane are gone, then it's possible that both are.

My biggest worry as far as current players leaving is Nic Moore. He has 3 years of eligibility and is clearly the glue the holds our team together and makes it go. If he stays, we at least have one guy for the future coach to build a team around.

What if we up the ante to keep him, how much would it take? I'm sure ISU could afford it. If not, the carousel trend of coaches leaving will never end. Time to decide if we want to play with the big boys or if we're going to continue to be a coaching farm system for other BCS schools...
