WSU in the NBA?

Last drafted player in equivalent to the first two rounds by each college (don't have statistics for last player to play in the NBA):

Just so there is no confusion -- Creighton currently has two players in the League: the aforementioned Kyle Korver and fellow Atlanta Hawk, Anthony Tolliver.

Within the last decade, Creighton had a third player in the league as well - Rodney Buford.

I'd like to think we have at least two more on our current roster...

Buford had a couple decent years as a backup. Tolliver is doing basically nothing in the NBA but warming the bench, but this is his first year so let's wait and see. The weird thing is, Tolliver wasn't that great of a college bball player. He is an example of how to grow your game once you leave college.

Who are the two on your roster that you think can make it in the NBA? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

This is actually Tolliver's 4th full season in the NBA - 1 in Golden State, 2 in Minnesota and now with Korver in Atlanta. If you don't think McDermott will be drafted and spend some time in the NBA (barring injury), you are letting your hatred for CU cloud your judgment. He's a much more complete college player than Korver, is just as good of a shooter as Korver, and has the same work ethic as Korver. If you haven't noticed, Korver has lasted a decade in the NBA.

I was going through Doug's stats.....has he really only blocked 7 shots in two years?

He is nowhere near the shooter that Korver is.

At Creighton, Korver was a career 45.3% 3 point shooter. So far, Doug is a 44.5% 3 point shooter. Doug's 48.6% 3 point percentage last year was the best season in CU history. He doesn't get the shooting recognition because he is so good down low, but he's an elite shooter.

Sorry about that. The NBA page I looked at only showed one year for Tolliver. Again, he did a good job elevating his game after he stopped being a BJ. Korver is a one-dimensional enigma.

In 2011-2012, Lil' Wook averaged 1.5 3pt field goals per game. That's not shooting it like Korver. Lil' Wook does his damage (against teams besides WSU) in the paint with easy buckets and garbage goals. For Dougie to have any semblance of Korver's career, he is going to have to start shooting it from deep.. A LOT. There is nothing in Dougie's inside game that will translate to the NBA. If Wookie's offspring was a legit 6'9", I would give him a 15% chance of playing in the NBA. As it stands now, he ain't "black" enough and he don't shoot it like Korver.

He doesn't shoot from 3 as often as Korver, but he does it just as well as Korver. If he needs to be a spot-up jump shooter in the NBA, he has those skills.

I was making the point that NBA talent (draftable talent that is) is rare on any Valley team. We really haven't had a player drafted since O'Bryant. In fact, it is arguable that the league has as many potential NBA players on its rosters now as it had in the last decade.

Thanks Mrs. McDermott. I'm sure you have full faith in your son, but I doubt the NBA is going to take your word for it. If the Son of Chewie wants to play in the show (other than Koch Arena), he is going to need to change his game entirely.

I think that is the point. He is shooting a worse percentage with taking far less 3s than Korver. If he took just as many as Korver his percentage would not be nearly as good. He is a good 3 point shooter when no one is on him. Korver would nail them whether you guarded him or not. Not to mention Korver showed the NBA range in college I have yet to see Doug do that. Doug is a great player, but he is not near the shooter that Korver was. If you can't see that you have some serious Doug love problems.
