As always with ranks, it's not just the rank but the distance between ranks. Being 9th in an environment where there's an 8-conference breakaway at the top isn't worth a lot.

Really, at this point, the Valley could go either way on the slope. They can draft to the lead pack or lose the lead draft completely. I don't blame the apprehension on anyone's part.

Remember: the A10 doesn't sponsor football (their football teams play in the CAA). So that strikes out ISUb, ISUr, and SIU.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Missouri valley Football Conference is a separate entity. So wouldn't that make it pretty easy for the football playing MVC schools to join a basketball league and stay in the MVC for football.

Are you saying we should have the 7 schools join the MVC and then kick out Evansville to sit at 16? :D

If Elgin could pull that off, he deserves a starring role in the next "Hobbit" movie. :D

Here's an idea for all you foolzball fans who always talk about adding some lame azz summit team. If you want to play all sports with summit schools go join the summit. Quit bringing them up as candidates.

If CU leaves stay at 9 please, why bring in another mouth to feed?

To emphasize, if the proposed Catholic conference comes into fruition, EVERY SINGLE MEMBER would have an RPI under 100 as of today. How many NCAA Units would we get in the first year alone?

Its not a NEED as in we go bankrupt. It is a NEED as in we want to continue to invest more. But you already know that since you only quoted part of my original response.

I was kind of interested in this, so I checked it out. NCAA units by team since 1998:

Creighton - 11
Southern Illinois - 11
UNI - 7
Missouri St - 4
WSU - 4
Bradley - 3
Indiana St - 3
Illinois St - 2
Drake - 1
Evansville - 1

The funny thing I notice is after having 16 points 2005-2007, the MVC only has 9 since. (UNI - 4, CU - 2, DU/InSU/WSU - 1 each).

Those SMS/Missouri State units seem like ancient hisory. Same with the UE unit...

I just used the same 1998 start point that jaybydna called out. If SMS and UE units are ancient history, I guess we have to start in 2001 (which eliminates Illinois St's contributions which are the most ancient):

SIU - 11
CU - 8
UNI - 7
WSU - 4
BU - 3
InSU - 3
DU - 1

If we do 2002, which makes for a less arbitrary 10-year period we get:

SIU - 11
CU - 7
UNI - 7
WSU - 4
BU - 3
DU - 1
InSU - 1

If you want to use a useful time frame, it should be 6 years, because if I am not mistaken NCAA units are averaged and paid out over a rolling 6 year window. For instance, this year ('12-'13) will be the last year that the MVC receives any money form NCAA units from the '07-'08 season.
