Is anyone else tired of all this conference realignment bull*&% ? I know I am. I'm not complaining about the thread. I know I don't have to read it. And it's valuable info because it affects us all so I will continue to follow it. BUT it's just tiresome and detracts from the basketball season.

And I find it kind of sad really that old rivalries and geography don't seem to matter much at all anymore. Cold put it pretty well in the catholic schools thread that as the conferences spread out that really will put more pressure on the student athletes with all the extra travel time involved. But I'm sure that wasn't even considered in any of these realignment moves.

Sounds like Xavier and Butler have been invited and the new league might stick with 10 teams. That would be a positive for the MVC as the likelihood of Creighton leaving would be diminished.
Marquette's new basketball-centric athletic conference will include 10 or 12 teams, have a reasonable television contract and rotating sites for its league tournament, according to university sources.

The Golden Eagles will join six other former members of the Big East: Georgetown, St. John's, Providence, DePaul, Seton Hall and Villanova. Butler and Xavier will leave the Atlantic 10 to join the new unnamed league.

Creighton, Virginia Commonwealth, Dayton or St. Louis could become the 10th team, or the conference could begin play with 12 teams if three schools vying for the 10th spot are all worthy candidates.

It says 10 to 12 schools. Based on my read of things I am privy to CU is definitely in negotiations to join this league. I would guess it's 50-50.

My guess is it will be a 12 team league. In fact, if they are looking for the best options, a 12 team league is the way to go. I still would put Creighton at 50/50 in a 12 team league.
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

How would people feel about adding SLU and Dayton to MVC?

I can speak with a certain amount of confidence when I say that the SLU administration will stay in a revamped A-10 before they would join the Valley. The only way that SLU joins the Valley is if the A-10 disbands and they are not invited to this new conference. This has very little to do with the MVC and more to do with SLU's desire to increase its east coast student base. SLU administration cares way more about academics and enrollment numbers than it cares about athletic strength. Add in that there are also more SLU alums in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC each than in all Missouri Valley Conference markets combined and you can see why demographics work against the MVC in adding SLU.

I would put the chances of SLU joining the Valley at less than 5% at this time. If they are left out of the new conference party, the chances increase but to no more than 15%.

If Creighton, leaves, then it would still be a net loss. Neither SLU nor Dayton is an incredible team, though they would be in the top half the Valley (around or slightly below UNI and Illinois State this season).

Here is an interesting look at the Big East and schools they might be considering as additions. On his list based on Sagarin ratings, Creighton trails on Gonzaga, Xavier, and Butler.

NY Post reporting that CU has been contacted. I've not seen this reported anywhere else, so I can't say if it is valid or not.

A Post source also said that Creighton has been contacted by representatives of the seven Catholic schools that are leaving the Big East. Those schools are seeking to bolster a “western division” that would include DePaul, Marquette and Creighton. Duquesne has also become a program of interest.
