For all of the fan hysteria about what conference their school is going to jump to if the MVC were to implode, I’ve never seen a single reputable source that has any of the MVC schools — aside from Creighton — going anywhere.
A scientific study could be done on the group-think it takes among some on a message board fan base like, say, Wichita State’s, to speculate amongst themselves about moving to the Mountain West Conference, then collectively convince themselves it could happen, and then think it’s a distinct possibility it will happen.
This despite the fact that WSU doesn’t play football, which drives the vast majority of these moves, and that it’s never once been mentioned as an expansion candidate for that conference, or any other that I’m aware of, by anyone other than people speculating on message boards or blogs. It’s pie-in-the-sky.
Sources say that Fox, whose Fox Sports 1 channel is set to launch in August, has an initial high offer on the table of more than $500 million for a 12-year deal.

That's a big number.
If you're too lazy to do the math, that's $41.7 per year. In a 12 team conference, that's about $3.5 million per team per year. In a 10 team conference, that's a bit over $4 million per team per year. In a 16 team model, that goes to $2.6 million, but they'd presumably get more. I'd call $3 million the basement for the C7.
Fox is probably in a war against NBC and CBS for premier sports content to be 2nd in line behind ESPN as far as cable goes. Fox also has channels across the country remember, which means they can support a "national" conference (i.e., Gonzaga, Creighton, St Marys, et al) via their regional channels.
Turner wrote:As pointed on on the Holy Land site, the Catholic 7 would get more than the new additions which is very interesting. If you're Creighton or Butler do you want to join a league where you're always getting less? Possibly not a good long term move.
