MVC - 29th rated RPI

Postby MVCfans » November 22nd, 2010, 7:07 am

Not a great start as noted by below:

Through the first two weeks of the season, I knew the Missouri Valley Conference was collectively struggling.

But I didn’t know how bad it was until I checked out realtimerpi.com a few minutes ago.

In the conference RPI rankings, the MVC is currently ranked … wait for it …

29th.

Wait, let me re-phrase that …

29th!

Right now, the MVC looks down on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Ohio Valley Conference.

But we're right on the heels of the SWAC. I think one more good loss could push us ahead of them and we can take over 28th.

What's really alarming is the SoS ranking they give us ... dead last. Only one MVCteam is currently in the top 100 in SoS. UNI. Keep in mind that this only counts games already played in the SoS meter.

As I said in another tread, Warren Nolan has us at #19: http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2011/conferencerpi

It's still very early boys.

There are a few conferences "rated" ahead of us now that have conference records that are 5 to 10 games under .500.

There isn't enough data right now to support the RPI.

I think the main point is that the MVC is waaay behind where we've been in recent years and some have felt we got screwed when we were a top 10 RPI league. If things don't improve dramatically, there is zero chance of more than one bid if there was any chance to start.

And that is the best the MVC you can expect (+/-2) if the MVC doesn't start winning a higher rate of their non-conference games.

MVC is now 8th in conference RPI: http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2011/conferencerpi

Just a hair ahead of the Pac-10.

Our SOS as a conference was #9.

FWIW: ESPN rates all 32 conferences and has the MVC 11th.
