I don't think it's necessarily panic time unless the other BCS conferences quickly follow the Big Ten on this. When we play at Iowa State it's usually a big money maker for them, so we may be able to play there at least some of the years we were planning to go to Iowa City.

If all other BCS conferences do this, it basically becomes the end of FCS football as we know it. At that point the NCAA would have to step in and say if you offer XX number of scholarships, you play D-1 football, period. If you don't, you can either go non-scholarship, drop football, or move your athletics to D-2.

WHAT A BUNCH OF SISSIES.. first of all Barry A refused to schedule NDSU, Minnesota jerry kill said "thank god we dont play NDSU anymore"

but if this does happen, this should expedite a FBS MVFC conference.

UNI wont play Iowa
NDSU wont play Minnesota,Wiscon, Iowa
Ill St wont play Indiana, Illinois
So Ill wont play Illinois, Indiana.

************************ if this happens, watch for FBS talks to rush up to the plate

MVFC FBS CONFERENCE:
NDSU
UNI
ILL ST
SIU
MISS ST
Montana ? SDSU?

Idaho/New Mex St?

Plus NDSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL AS WELL!! NCAA BERTH, TIM MILES, NEW ARENA WILL HELP!

DoubleJayAlum wrote:I don't think the Dakota fans have any idea how much money MVC basketball generates for its member schools. In all fairness, though, why would they as I highly doubt Summit league basketball is that much of a cash generator. This is why adding the Dakota schools to the MVC is such a nonstarter ---- basketball is such a second level priority to them. They are always going to chose to spend money on FB first, their basketball programs will always suffer as a result and hurt the rest of the conference. Worse than that, every time they win a football game, they are going to go all post crazy in the basketball forums about their FB accomplishments! To paraphrase Barry Alvarez, "FCS football is not very appealing."

As I said in an earlier post, the reason the MVC FB schools don't sacrifice their basketball programs to just jump up a level is that they need the money the basketball programs produce.

I'm not sure how the MVC moving to the FBS changes that. It isn't like they are moving basketball to a different conference and the FBS could offer new revenue streams on the football side. I think some of these schools want the best of both worlds, FBS and MVC basketball.

I do get tired of hearing how all NDSU cares about is football. Look at our facilities and what were are planning to do and tell me that all we care about as football. Heck we've been one of the top non-BCS schools in the Directors Cup three years running, you don't do that by focusing on just one sport. In it's history NDSU has won over 200 conference titles and 22 national titles but yes we are just a one sport school.

That said now our AD is hearing from Big 10 ADs who don't really agree with what the conference might do and that the Big 12 has never discussed eliminating these FCS games.

Taylor said he got his information from another Big Ten athletic director on Wednesday, who told him some schools in the power conference don’t want to give up the FCS game.

“One of (the ADs) said we’re not all in the upper echelon of the Big Ten,” Taylor said. “We need those guys. Our coaches would hang us if we played only non-FCS teams.”

Taylor said he also talked with an athletic director from the Big 12 Conference, who told him that league has never discussed not scheduling FCS teams.

If the MVC wants to go to FBS, here's the steps it would take

1) UNI, SIU, InSU, IlSU, MSU all agreeing to ascend together
2) You can probably get Idaho and New Mexico St on board, but I have a dreaded feeling they'd need all sport invites to go
3) The XDSUs' football product would actually be needed for legitimacy (especially NDSU's. this is the one part I'll give them credit. if the MVC ever makes the decision to become football first, they're an instant asset. I just obviously HIGHLY doubt that day ever comes)
4) Would YSU and WIU and South Dakota go too? Probably. Let's assume S. Dakota doesn't, the other 2 do
5) Let's assume Creighton is long gone to the C7 by then.
6) With 11 football teams, we need a balancer. Let's say we can convince WKU to move for the heck of it.

The New Valley is a 12/16 configuration.

West:
Idaho
New Mexico St
North Dakota St
South Dakota St
Northern Iowa
Missouri St
Wichita St*
Drake*

East:
Southern Illinois
Western Kentucky
Illinois St
Youngstown St
Indiana St
Western Illinois
Bradley*
Evansville*

The basketball four could not flee this conference any faster. I'm actually conviinced WSU fans would try and burn down Elgin's house in this scenario.

And the truly frightening scenario: with the WAC now gone, the MVCF would then become the defacto worse FBS conference - and therefore, all FBS teams who wanted to move up would go through the MVCF. You see all these reasonable football candidates in the Big Sky? They would look to go through the MVCF. Now you've built a cycle where football decisions are being made, and basketball disintegrates.

This event is absolutely not anything worthy of the thread title.

The Big Rusty is the only conference that will ever attempt this mark my words. No one in FCS football is panicking at all. The Big Rusty wants to avoid unsightly losses. That is all. Nothing to see here.

Most of these MVC football teams would be better off to drop football, put their resources into basketball, etc. and help the Valley become a real force on the National level in basketball. Their football teams certainly aren't national level programs.

Isn't there a D2 football message board that would be better suited for this thread? How did these jokers from NDSU and SDSU get involved in a valley basketball message board?

whiskey? are you kidding? or does your school not have the stones for AMERICAN FOOTBALL??

Football is King, get used to it and accept your position.

the MVC can have their cake (basketball) and eat it too (football) there is no reason why they cant co-exist.
