I hope those weren't your sentiments. Best MVC team in 30 years? Hahahahaha

SoW has certainly gotten a lot of national attention even though he is utterly one-dimensional and unathletic; Cy is a solid center, SloMo Gibbs is a heady player, but this BJ team is far from the best in 30 years.. :Bam:

Hell, I think Funk's team is better than this one.

I'm sure that all Valley fans sympathize with your plight. It's difficult to see the annointed ones go through this.

Sure it is not that Mac rides his horses hard? 4 of the 5 starters last night are averaging 30+ minutes per game for the season. Manigat is at 26 MPG.

Contrast UNI had two starting guards (Anthony James & Marc Sonnen) who are at 32 MPG. The third highest season average is 28 MPG with Koch. It falls off from there.

The reason for McDermott's persistent Feb slide?

I think he meant "the most hyped in the MVC in 30 years" in constrast to "the best team in the MVC in 30 years."

They are certainly in the race and formidable, but those that predicted them running the table must be scratching their heads wondering...

Given the Pathers walk the ball up the court and milk the play clock strategy, I am not sure that the "crack 60" stat has much value relative to a defensive accomplishment.

No, I am not criticizing the Panthers for its strategy.

Koch guards Doug better than anyone in the Valley.

Jake really should get at least second team AC this year. He doesn't have the PPG that some do, but he is top 10 in the league in rebounds, defensive rebounds, field goal %, blocks and steals in conference play...also averaging over 10 ppg

The way he took the game over was incredible tonight.

Here is the box score showing how much he took the game over

4:43 Jake Koch made layup
3:45 Koch layup
3:19 Koch steal
2:33 Koch block
2:32 Koch defensive rebound
2:20 Koch layup
1:22 Koch rebound
1:00 Koch layup
:52 Koch block
0:18 (Koch steal)
:26 (FT's, made one missed one
:18 Koch steal
:18 Koch made 2 FTs
:09 Koch defensive rebound
:09 Koch 2 FT's.

Pretty impressive. Koch is my least favorite player in the conference. Too bad he doesn't play like the above all the time. I think he is lazy.

Your all right. 1) This Creighton team was overhyped, i knew it from the beginning, although i thought we were better than this. But the hype came from returning almost everyone from a team that was an 8 seed a year ago. What people forget is that last year we were 7-1 in games decided by less than 4 points or somethin like that. If close games last year went like they have this season (1-4), we would of not even been close to making the tournament last year.(except we did win in st. louis).
2) Doug Mcdermott was over-hyped too. Not that hes not one of the best offensive players in the country, but anyone in the valley knows he doesnt play much defense, and hes not a good rebounder. His defense pisses me off.
3) Losing Josh Jones hurt us . He was our best wing player, even though he wasnt a starter we all know he was better than a couple of our starters. He was possibly our best shooter and could create his own shot and drive to the basket too. Our wing players are now our obvious weaknes.
4) Coaching- A big reason were not as good now is simply energy. Why we werent playing more than 7 guys earlier in the year is beyond me. Our bench isnt that bad, and we were up with comfortable leads most of the time. When a team looks worse at the end of the year then at the beginning that goes on the coaching.

This team was a bit overhyped by many creighton fans, however, this team should never of not been good enough to make the Dance. We were one of the best offensive teams in the country and now we look terrible on offense. Whats more surprising? - Illinois State goin 0-6 to start conference play, or Creighton being ranked 10 in the country and then losing 5 of their next 8?

Yet he is a 1000 point scorer, is top 10 in the conference in 5 or 6 stat categories, and is one of only 2 players in MVC history to score 500 pts (you can now make that score 1000 points), grab 500 rebounds, have 100 made threes, 100 assists, 100 blocks, 100 steals in his career....I'll take that kind of lazy player on my team every single season.

He isn't well liked (even my a good chunk of UNI fans) because he doesn't show a ton of excitment. Weems (who is the other player to put up those stats for a career) went over the top with his actions, and Koch doesn't do it enough for people to like him.

Here is a great article on the subject from today, oddly enough

Also, I don't know why CU fans are shocked their team is falling apart right now, this is part of what Mac does...look at his career record in February

01-02 2-6
02-03 4-3
03-04 7-2
04-05 4-2
05-06 3-4
06-07 3-4
07-08 1-6
08-09 2-7
09-10 2-7
10-11 4-4
11-12 4-3
12-13 1-3

Cumulative February Coaching Record - 38-51, 0.427 winning percentage
Overall Coaching Record - 211-159, 0.582 winning percentage.

He's great early in the season, until the fact he only plays 7 guys the entire season starts to catch up with the team....every single year. You'd think he start to figure that out. You'd think he'd also be better at making adjustments from match up to match up with the same teams, yet he doesn't and never has. It's why teams are so much better against CU the second time than the first.

I was reading bluejayunderground yesterday after the loss, and came across this tidbit of information that I can't find back...maybe I didn't read it there but I thought I did and I can easily find the information back on my own, which I'll have to do... going into last nights game against UNI, Creighton had played 4 teams twice in conference play (Drake, ISUr, ISUb, MSU). In the first game Creighton was 4-0, in the return games Creighton was just 1-3 with their only win vs. MSU.

In the first games Creighton outscored it's opponents 323-251. In the return games they were outscored 302-289...including the game against MSU where they scored 91.

Add UNI into that and they are now 1-4 in return games, and still outscored.

The post went into bigger details about how many more TO's they had, how much lower their FG% was vs how much higher their opponents was, etc...

It was a pretty damming post about Mac's coaching adjustments - as well as the teams play.

It's also very interesting to see the dynamic of that team. It seems like if Manigat, Chatman, etc.. made a mistake last night Mac went out of his way to yell at them, however, if Gibbs, Etch-a-whatever, and Doug screwed up/made similar mistakes Mac didn't say a word. Couple that dynamic with the fatigue that has to be setting in with 5 guys averaging over 25 min per game (3 over 30) and only 3 more over 10 per game (and one of them is Josh Jones). I'm not going to do the math, but I'd bet Gibbs, McDermott, and Chattman are all closer to 35 mpg right now than 30 over the last 7-10 games, and GE is likely closer to 28-30 mpg than his season average of 22, and Managat closer to 30-32 than his 26 average.

I've read that to keep them fresh Mac is holding them out of practice. Couple the fatigue with not practicing and no wonder you're seeing teams holding them to lower shooting %, scoring more on them, rebounding better against, them, and seeing their TO's go up?

Mac is terrible at finding a balance of paying enough minutes and playing too many minutes....that has been shown for years.

It's been said before, and CU fans dismissed it, but it's showing right now. Without Doug they are nothing more than a 5th or 6th place team, and it's not going to get better next year with the loss of Gibbs and GE.

What a humbling experience for some BJ fans.

Never thought deanthonybowden would have been waving the white flag a couple weeks ago.
