This is from 2010.

WSU students each gave $228 of their student fees toward athletics, while UNI students gave $79.60. (*1)

To be fair, a larger amount of general fund money goes to athletics at UNI, $4.6 million in 2010. (*2)

Half of the general fund comes from state allocation, the other half from tuition. So students fund an additional $2.3 million of athletics through their tuition. With an enrollment of 13,200 that year, it breaks down to an additional $174.23 per student.

So each student at UNI was supporting athletics to the tune of $253.84 that year, very comparable to the $228 at WSU (which doesn't account for any general fund support the athletic department might receive --- I couldn't find that data).

Do Northern Iowa students vote on tuition?

I think I remember why I had NIU in the top three. It was because the original thread was about MVC schools needing welfare to survive. NIU wasn't as heavy as the other two with regards to student fees, but they took a massive amount of state welfare - which everybody already knows.

Wichita State had the budget most flush with cash and NIU was close to the bottom. SIU-C and SwoMo where particularly heavy-handed when it came to student fees. WSU's student fees are just a drop in the bucket compared to the private money the program raises. I don't even remember why there was a student fee, it was voted on a LONG time ago. Part of the deal was that the students get 1,000 free tickets to every basketball game so it's not like it was a pure fee. Those tickets are valuable! Two front row seats at Koch Arena go for $24,000. WSU students get their front row seats for free.

I think you better recheck your info regarding MSU and student fees and MSU students have always gotten into games free .Also you have chosen to not mention money from the general fund diverted to WSU athletics, again something most Universities that don't have BCS football money do. I'm just pointing out Marshalls salary does come at the expense of that money not being available to reduce the amounts skimmed from other sources[ students/general fund]

The data was very clear between the MVC schools and Wichita State raised by far the most private funding and also had relatively little expense parlayed onto the students. The football schools NIU, SIU-C, and SwoMo, etc., were the biggest debtors having to extend their hand for welfare in every direction.

I have little motivation to search for the articles and the thread is of course gone, but I will repost the data if I can find it in the future. Perhaps Isaso can call upon his resources to dig it out? It wasn't very pretty and does nothing to improve the relationship between Wichita State and it's Valley brethren as it paints a picture of gross revenue disparity.

I have found some data and have tried to post it in picture format, but I keep getting this forum error: "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." Can someone please tell me why the forum is saying this? I tried all different image sizes.
