Wichita State classless coach and players

Look at the aftermath of what happened last night. You've got a WSU assistant coach yelling at ISU fans and that could be seen on national TV. And after that your coaches get into it with the Illinois State coaches which I was told was instigated by the short little WSU coach.

Temper, temper

Several witnesses said coaches from both teams exchanged words in the hallway outside the locker rooms after the game, sending security guards scurrying.

WSU coach Gregg Marshall declined to comment on the specifics. He did discuss the matter with Illinois State athletic director Gary Friedman. A security guard followed him and his players while they walked around the arena until they exited.

“I’m not going to talk about that,” Marshall said. “That was crazy. It was uncalled for, I’ll just put it that way.”

The rivalry between the two teams heated up in last season’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, when the Redbirds eliminated the Shockers in a physical game. This summer, assistant coach Dana Ford left WSU, after one season as a full-time coach, to join the Illinois State staff, adding another element of tension to the series.

During post game handshakes, apparently one WSU coach disrespected Coach Ford...as both teams headed for the locker rooms, one of ISU assistants stuck up for Coach Ford by confronting said WSU coach...and mayhem ensued! Myself and some university police officers had to separate ISU coaches and players from WSU coaches and players!! Had the security not responded as such, blows most definitely would have been exchanged. Most surprising was how both head coaches responded...Muller tried to help diffuse the situation...Marshall was adding fuel to the fire by screaming back obscenities, showing no professionalism nor respect for either program. I personally had to hold back an ISU assistant during the scuffle. Not sure if this makes any sort of news outlet...but expect to see sanctions be placed upon both programs by the MVC! It could have got real ugly, real fast and put the MVC in such a negative light. What ever respect I had towards WSU and Marshall is now lost. Also the former ISU coach, now WSU coach was part of the obscenity exchanging and interaction with the fans.

Your post is sour grapes, and ignores the epic choke job by ISU, and the silly/stupid play by Carmichael.

With that said, there certainly is a pretty substantial sampling of behavior from the WSU program during the Marshall era that is pretty unbecoming, and that's putting as nicely as possible.

epic collapse by ISUR. WSU showing their true classless colors, from the coaches on down. Both sides have something to be ashamed of this morning. Too bad because that was a great environment and ball game last night.

1. a isu player admits he intentionally kicked a wsu player
2. and isu fans throw stuff at wsu players,
3. and a isu coach goes to the wsu lockerroom to call out a wsu assistant coach for disrespecting a former wsu coach who lied and did not fullfill his promises

But it is wsu fault?

It's times like this when I'm glad we have a classy coach.

In every conference there is a team/coach that draws the ire of the others -- someone has to wear the black hat. It's just that Marshall seems to embrace it.

You once thought that your last coach was a classy dude and now you can't stand him. What a piece of work.

I think everyone on this forum would agree with this:

1. WSU needs to be excommunicated from the Valley
2. WSU's athletic department needs to be liquidated with the proceeds going to the budgets for MSU, UNI and the other poor sisters in the conference.
3. Gregg Marshall should be banned from college basketball for life because all those naysayers who disparaged him during his first year at WSU are getting embarrassed right now.

It's only fair, right? Marshall is the spawn of the devil, just like Gene Stephenson was back in the day when he was winning a little too much for everyone's comfort level.
Random MVCFans.com member, circa 2007: "Gregg Marshall is in over his head in this conference."
