I don't think Doug's coming back.....the reaction he and his father had when he came out of the game was something more than "I'm happy we won the conference title".....seemed like more of a "Conference title+knowing it's the last game at home" type reaction.

Maybe that's just me though

Some were wide open, but there were definately some that were tough shots (i.e. Grant Gibbs fading away 3 pointer with a hand in his face at shot clock buzzer). That is when I knew things just weren't going to end well. Hard to overcome that kind of stuff from a team who already shoots a good percentage and is hard to beat as it is.

Kind of reminded me of a game a few years ago, perhaps Nate Funk's senior year? It was in Koch Arena and I think the Jays shot a similar percentage of about 70%. I also think Funk was close to 40pts if not over. I don't know, maybe I am mistaken, but that comes to mind for some reason LOL.

***I guess it wasn't Funks senior year. Maybe it was during Korver's time. Or maybe I am just remembering a game incorrectly LOL

Here it is. Wasn't Funk's senior year, but it WAS Funk:

Guess it was just the 2nd half they lit us up. Still remembered shaking my head thinking, "Just can't beat a team when they shoot like that" Much like today's game.

I don't know, I saw some of the same emotion, "its my last home game." "thanks for getting me this job" kind of hug :)

The Shockers are playing worse now than they did at the beginning of conference play, or indeed at the beginning of the season. IMHO, our worst effort of the season, simply because of the historically bad defense. We have be the best team Creighton has played, but that was the worst defense they've seen all season.

Gregg Marshall has a couple of weeks left to work some magic, but the Shockers have been more of a CaseyGarrison prediction than a C0ld prediction over the last week. I wasn't surprised we lost, but the strength of our team is our defense and our defensive effort today was the worst in Shocker history.

It will be very interesting in Saint Louis. The Shockers need to rebound, play quality defense, and learn how to keep teams playing at their pace. It is the start of a new season, and hopefully we start it off the same way we did the regular season (9-0).

I didn't see bad defense, I saw good offense. I thought you guys played as good of defense today as a lot of games you played this year, and better defense than some of your other games. Good offense can make a defense look worse. In Wichita, much like today, you guys played tough defense. The difference was our movement offensively and making good passes was much better today.

I agree with this. Defense wasn't as bad as box score makes it looks. Jays just hit everything including some tough shots

The difference was that the Shockers didn't grab 20 or whatever ridiculous number of offensive boards they did down in Wichita..

Huh? Now I didn't get to watch the game but I listened on the radio and that is not the feeling they were giving off or Gregg was saying post game. The shockers shot over 50%. If it was the worst defense CU would have been shooting layups and it didn't sound like there were many. They shot the best anyone has ever shot against the shockers. More on their ability to make shots and not so much on the defense. It was a good offensive game to have heading into stl. Maybe not the one seed but they still have a good chance of putting something together.

Congrats to Creighton. They earned a LOT of respect from me as a team, for McDermott specifically, and for the team's toughness as a whole. I felt like the referees were pretty lenient, and allowed a tough game that usually plays to the Shockers' advantage. Creighton not only responded but had probably the best game I have ever seen from them. It's one thing to blow out MissSt ... it's another thing to blow out one of the best defensive teams in the country when they shoot 50%+ and win the turnover margin. I didn't think there was a team in the country that could beat WSU with those numbers. But if your opponent shoots 70% and makes 11 3's ... Christ.

I gave up when Gibbs hit that 3 falling out of bounds. Pretty much summed up that game. Well behind the line, defended well, falling backwards as the shot clock expires, and he STILL hits the 3. Creighton just couldn't miss, and WSU is not going to beat a team that shoots like that despite strong, physical defense. I don't know who can.

Great movement on the ball. Great inside out action. The most defensive spark I've seen from Creighton before. And McDermott was incredible. If Doug is going to be elite against good teams instead of just the teams they should beat easily like he has in the past, Creighton is a Final Four team.

I've never been so happy with WSU in a loss. They played great defensive, looked great offensively, and busted their asses the entire game. There's nothing to complain about there. You just look at McDermott's numbers, go holy s***, and tip your hat.

The only thing I would say is that Wichita didn't defend the perimeter very well at times as CU got some open looks for 3 when the defenders got screened, otherwise I thought their interior defense was good.
